  1. My surgeon never gave me a goal weight. I set my own at 150, but as I'm losing, I'm starting to rethink it. I think 160 may be ok. I'll just have to wait and see... ...but I'll know it when I see it!!
  2. You're perfectly normal. It took a few weeks to get past that stage.
  3. I'm in Kentucky and my doctor performed a bypass on a patient in her 80's. That's no help to you where you live. But the bigger issue is likely to be relative health than age.
  4. I don't chew any differently than I did before, and only made the effort at all the first week I had solids. It just hasn't been a problem for me. On the other hand, I do take smaller bites than I did before.
  5. Impressive. I never thought of things this way. Thank you.
  6. The test I took was utterly ridiculous. It was pages and pages long, but thankfully it did not take a full three hours to complete. It asked the same questions in several forms, and for so many, there simply was not a good answer. For example, "How has your drug problem affected your life...?" None of the multiple-choice answers were "Not al all" or "I don't have a drug problem". Some form of that stupid question presented itself at least a dozen times. And that is just one example. I won't go into how many ways it asked about my non-existent suicidal tendencies. In the end, when I met with the guy, he said he had a problem with my results, which showed that I had a tendency to downplay my problems and that I saw myself as a strong go-to person. Well, yeah, I am a strong go-to person. And well, no, I don't dwell on the negative. After a very short heated exchange, he okayed me. Try not to worry about it. Just go in there and do your best. I don't remember seeing on this forum that someone was disqualified due to the psych evaluation (that doesn't mean it doesn't happen, I just happened not to see it). Best of luck!!!
  7. My blood pressure was always at least that high, even though I was on four bp meds. But surgery went ahead, and afterwards, my bp shot up even higher thanks to all the IV fluids. I had a hard time convincing them that this always happens to me, but it would subside once I got off the fluids. It did. I'm happy to report that even though I am still on the same four meds, now my numbers are well within normal!
  8. Glad to see a supportive spouse!! Mine has been, and it makes all the difference in the world. Some are not so lucky.
  9. I had chills at night for the first several weeks. And still do but not to the same degree as early on. I did run a slight fever for about two weeks. The cause was never identified, even though they checked for infection and leak. So check your temp!
  10. What a transformation! You look awesome! Pretty before, even prettier after!
  11. 4:00 a.m. - Click caffeinated protein drink 6:00 a.m. - a few ounces of Muscle Milk to wash down a gazillion rx's/supplements 8:30 a.m. - 11 oz. Muscile Milk 10:00 a.m. - 28 grams unsalted roasted almonds 11:30 a.m. - 4 oz. low fat cottage cheese with pepper and salsa 2:00 p.m. - 1 oz. low fat cheese and a few pepperoni slices 3:30 p.m. - 30 grams unsalted roasted peanuts 5:30 p.m. - dinner (always protein only, no room for veggies/carbs) 7:00 p.m. - a few ounces of Muscle Milk to wash down a gazillion rx's/supplements Throughout the day, drinking Crystal Light. I'll have around 100 calories per day, with about 100 grams of protein. I can't hold enough at one time to get so much protein, so I drink some, and eat protein throughout the day. I'm very happy with my progress. Good luck!!
  12. Let's see.... I was 8 when my father had 75% of his stomach removed due to hemorhaging ulcers. He died of alcohol-related circumstances when I was in my early 20's. I don't recall that he ate much differently, but my folks separated when I was 9, so I wasn't in touch with him much. I do recall that he remained slim throughout his life. So, that was done over 51 years ago, and he lived at least 12 - 14 years. Probably would have lived much longer had he stayed away from the booze. I intend to live at least 25 more years!
  13. Well, Jlewis, I adore your face so much that your size wouldn't matter. You're cuter than a speckled pup!! I know you're young and gay, I'm old and straight, so I'm not hitting on ya... I just don't understand that other gay guys don't see your cuteness!
  14. At three months out was down from a 42DD to 40D. Still got lots of poundage to go, so who knows where it will end. I'm suspecting about a 38B, and deflated.
  15. Take extra when you'll be in a social situation where sharing might be expected.
  16. You must be planning one helluva party! I see posts from you about alcohol, and another about cocaine and ecstasy!! Not judging, just observing! Be careful, give yourself some time. My surgeon advises to wait six months for alchohol, made no mention of weed or hard drugs What does your surgeon advise?
  17. Big difference between 6 and 8 years of age, but when I had knee replacement surgery, my then 6 year old granddaughter came to visit once I got home and was quite upset to see me in such a condition.
  18. Parker's Dad, not a guy, just me again. I have yet to hit a stall and am four months out. I occassionally go up an ounce or two because going potty gets delayed sometimes, but eventually it all works out. I have weighed the same for no more than three days straight at any given time. I do have a high metabolism. I do not exercise. I do not drink adequate fluids, about 16 oz. short every day. I DO eat the daylights out of that Protein, 80 - 100 grams. I DO eat about 1000 calories per day, limit carbs to 50 or under. I DO take my supplements as recommended. It's a highly individualized path for each of us. Keep searching, your answer will come.
  19. I eat nuts twice a day, every day, at 3.5 months out. Haven't tried corn, too many carbs and low protein. Don't eat beans but never did - they make me uncomfortably gassy.
  20. This doubt and fear seems to be just a normal part of the preparation process. Do as they others say, go to the information session and listen carefully to what they say. Don't cloud your mind at that time with doubts.... really LISTEN. It takes most of us a while to wrap our heads around this thing... cutting out a huge chunk of a major organ... fear of complications... fear of not waking up... fear of death...fear of ending up worse off than when we started... Keep seeking information, it's the key to a solid decision. Good luck!
  21. Last Saturday I attended a family funeral and saw my Aunt Cookie, whom I had not seen in a few years. We look very much alike, very similar faces, same height, similar builds when young. I actually look more like her than I do my mother (they are sisters). She is only about eight years older than I am. I am on this forum so of course have gained a lot of weight, but am now losing it thanks to the sleeve. Aunt Cookie appeared to weigh about 300 to 325, a good 50 - 75 pounds heavier than I was when I had wls. The image of her at that weight was so shocking! And even more shocking, I got a glimpse of where I was headed had I not intervened with the sleeve! Every day I am so grateful that this option is available to us, and that it has gone so well and so easily for me.
  22. I can drink as if nothing happened. Funny thing though. I used to love drinking plain cold water. Can't stand the taste of plain water now. I have to put crystal lite or something in it.
  23. I just tried it, working fine for me. Stuff used to look funny on this site until I upgraded my browser. You might want to see if you're on the latest or at least a recent version of whatever browser you use.
  24. I agree with notime. Plans will eventually have to meet certain minimums in preventive care and the like, but it will likely be a long time if ever before plans will be required to cover weight loss surgery. I wish it were so, but alas...
  25. I drink two shakes a day in addition to the Protein I eat. I typically get 90 - 100 grams of protein. I am one of the few I guess who actually likes the shakes I use. I drink one for Breakfast and split the other one morning and evening to choke down the gobs of supplements and prescriptions meds I take. I intend to keep it up, as my surgeon's instructions are to continue with the shakes for as long as you want.
