  1. Izuri, Thank you for the info and reminders. It is slow going but I am trying to stay the course. Good luck to yo on your journey as well.
  2. Thank you for those kind words. Sometimes a pat on the back like that helps you see things more clearly and motivates you to keep trying. I use "my fitness pal" to track my food, exercise, nutrient count etc. But you are right I probably have not been as diligent as in the first 5 months. I have dropped a couple of sizes but nothing like some of the 5+ sizes I have read about here. The general theory of one size loss for every 10 down just does not work for me. One Dr said my bones were probably 1/2 of my weight. LOL. I will keep checking back here to see if there is anything else I might pay attention to. I know you will have equal or better success! Enjoy the journey!
  3. Hi fellow sleevers. I have not posted in awhile but come back to this life-saving forum and read often. I had my surgery on Oct 3, 2011 just 3 weeks shy of my 68th birthday (best gift ever to myself). I have lost 90 lbs and my health reports are great now, but I still fall in the BMI of 35 (still obese, started at 48). Even though I watch carbs, sugar, get protein and water and exercise in, I vary betwen 212 and 216. I was hoping to have lost 100 lbs by the one year date. My question is has anyone here continued to lose after the one year mark and do you have any suggestions as to how I might kick start my loss? I so apreciate all of your suport and in put.
  4. Hi Guys, Haven't posted for a while but read often and love this board! I was wondering if some of you who are over a year out can tell me if the first year is the honeymoon for weight loss and then it stops. Did you continue to lose and if so how much and did you have to ramp up or continue what you had been doing? So apreciate all of you who take the time to share your experiences!
  5. Thanks for that pat on the back. I try to think and act the same as you suggest but still have some ways to go. I just hope I will continue to lose at least for the first year. Happy Fourth to you and all who post here!
  6. Wow! Congrats on your success! Any tips would be greatly appreciated My weight loss has really slowed down. Thanks also for sharing the fact that you get those darn hot flashed too. My concern is that they are back when I've been done with them for over 10 years! Yuk!
  7. Hi everyone. Haven't posted in a while but I am having a problem and don't know if anyone else is experiencing this or if it is even an issue related to the surgery. I am well past menopause (age 68) but in the past month I have started to experience hot flashes unrelated to the weather. My doctor had told me my hormones would be raging because because fat cells start releasing hormones as they are sloughed off by the body. But I am almost 9 months out and have just started to get them. My husband says it's because I am one hot mamma LOL! But they are annoying and keeping me up at night just like menopause. Any ideas or help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks as always, Monty
  8. Thanks everyone for your help. I am relieved to know that you have also had dumping, as I needed your advice, but sorry you had to experience it.
  9. Does anyone know or have experience with dumping with causes other than sugar? I am 8 months out I know I had one because of accidentally eating yougurt with 27g of sugar. But I have had 3 since and don't know the cause. This has me in a panic that it will happen when I am away from home. I don't know if it is something that I ate earlier in the day or just before it happens, when I suddenly feel very ill, have to move my bowels and can't, get clammy, heart racing etc. I feel stuck, not able to move out of it. I know most people don't have this with the sleeve and may even be one of the reasons they choes the sleeve, but this has me scared! As always appreciate any help/suggestions.
  10. Wow M2G. You are an inspiration! I only hope I can do as well. Being 68, my metabolism wants to hold on to everything! It is in a big snit that after all these years I did this but it doesn't seem to get the reasons- helping it be healthy and to stick around longer! Congrats and good luck to you!
  11. Wow! I can only hope for such success! If I am reading correctly you have lost a total of 101 lbs, 65 of which was by month 6. How much had you lost within the first year and did you ever gain during that time? Thanks for taking the time to answer!
  12. Make that starting my 8th month, with the one lb loss in April. Seems even worse!!!
  13. Hi Everyone. Haven't been on in a while, but I am so discouraged decided to ask you experts. I had lost about 82 lbs but it has slowed so much. Even though I am exercising and watching portions and carbs, I only lost 1 lb in month 6. Now that I am starting the 7th month, I gained a pound yesterday and got on the scale today (which I wouldn't usually do so I don't obsess) but had gained another lb! I am soooo down and wonder if the weight loss stops at 7 months for most people or if I have just hit a stall. If so it;s one H___ of a stall! Just hoping you guys can pick my spirits up a little and give me some adivce, Thanks, as always!
  14. You Guys are the best!!! I needed to hear some positive feedback and you have made me feel sooo much better! I guess being a lab rat never entered my mind and now that I have read your posts it makes me think that some Dr.s are like car dealerships-once they sell you the car they don't want to service it. I am so grateful to all of you as my new family.
  15. I am very down! I had my six month checkup and thought I had done very well. I am 68, could not walk from the bed to the bathroom without struggling. Now I am up to walking at a brisk pace for 30 min without stopping, 5x a week. I was pre-diabetic and now my latest blood tests show glucose at 92 and the rest are all within normal range. Problem is my Dr. took me down because I have only lost 79 lbs. I started at 305. I have had both knees replaced and multiple surgeries (heart stint being one of them)I came home and my old demons said to eat everything in site to deal with this emotional let down (I didn't) I went to bed and slept 12 hours straight, which for me is rare. I get 6-7hrs and don't take a nap. I am still down but back up on my horse today. I am wondering if anyone else is this slow a loser! I know he is prodding me to use this time to lose the most weight but I don't know what else to do. I say "no" to myself constantly! His mantra is eat protein, protein, protein!!! As always, thanks for listeningI
  16. No, I don't have a fever, which is why I did not call the Dr. Thought I'd wait, but this happened last Thur, and I still have all this congestion and cough. Only thing that helped that night was to take a hot shower and put Vicks on to ease the cough and aid in getting my breath. Only thing that helped me get some sleep. I take a Zantac every night so if it was Acid it happened because the esophagus got too irritated and because of the small opening may have backed up.
  17. Hi everyone, Haven't been on in a while but now have a problem I'm hoping someone can help me with. I had an episode of dumping when I accidentally ate 28 grams of sugar in a 6oz cup of Greek yogurt. So now I check the sugar on all labels. This was different! I eat pumpkin seeds for protein, usually sprinkled in my yogurt. Well last week I wasn't hungry for yogurt so I ate a handful ,not all at once, late in the evening. Went to bed feeing fine, woke up about 2am for a potty run and when I stood up could not get my breath as it felt like my windpipe was blocked. I could not heave, or slime and my throat was burning. Started to violently cough and got minimal relief. Coughed all night every two to three minutes. Finally was able to get down about a tablespoon of Galviscon which helped ease the throat pain a little but not the cough. Felt better in the morning but badly shaken. But you know as the day wears on you think you overeacted and start talking yourself out of calling anyone. The next day out of the blue (no cold) and since, I have had terrible congestion, where it sounds like a full blown bronchitis attack. No fever or yellow-green type mucous, but bad episodes of hacking slime type mucous up with shortness of breath. The Dr removed two large hernias in the esophagus when he did the sleeve 5 and a half months ago. I have read similar symptoms of aspiration of food in the lungs. I thought I'd check here to see if anyone else has experienced this. The problem is aspiration can lead to pneumonia. Could be terrible case of acid reflux but doubt it. Any thoughts from you would be greatly appreciated. Thanks so much for listening.
  18. Thanks everyone for the info! It helps to know that some others have the same experiences. Thanks for a Happy Valentine's Day :Banane55:
  19. Hi Everybody, I am 4 months out and 68 years old. I am almost too embarassed to ask this, but you're family right? I know there is improvement in body image as a factor in libido, but I have had such an increase (like someone turned the switch to on) that I have never experienced anything like this even when I was in my 20's and in great shape. Believe me, my husband isn't complaining, he just feels like he's sleeping with a new woman LOL! I am concerned, however, feeling like this has become an obsession. I know some people would say go with the flow (no pun intended), but I feel out of control. I read somewhere that as fat cells shrink they release hormones, not sure what kind. My husband is concerned that the switch will just as suddenly be turned to off. I know some won't consider this a problem, but I truly am worried.
  20. Check out Amazon. They have them free shipping if you are a prime member and no tax. I always check there first as they come right to your door which was especially helpful when I was recovering.
  21. You and your mom are in my prayers. Gather your support system around you and consider a grief counseling class. It helped me so much when my son died. We are family here and will always be here to listen and support you.
  22. Just wondering if any one else got a road map for % of weight loss. My Dr said 30% excess body weight in 3 months was what is anticipated. Does that seem about right? Did you get any guide lines? Thanks, as always.
  23. Sasicas, Did you have bruising before the surgery and if not about when did it start? My last blood work levels were perfect on 12-12-11. But I see my surgeon on Thur. Congratulations on your weight loss!
  24. Thanks guys. I went to the site and it had excellent info. Also less fat does mean skin not padded. I use to get bruises a lot when I was young due to being anemic. I thought as I got older I had just outgrown this problem. However, it makes sense that when you lose weight your skin isn't protected like before. Thanks for the replies. As usual, excellent feed back here and I appreciate the time you took to respond. I see my surgeon on Thur. and will be asking him about this. Happy New Year!
  25. Check your blood pressure. If you were on meds for BP you may need to have the dosage adjusted as you lose weight.
