  1. There's under a 1% chance of this happening to other RNY patients. I wouldn't freak out over it! The ride to the ER was 8 minutes and it seemed like it was the longest ride I've ever taken.
  2. It's closed up from the inside. The outermost part of the skin is left open to promote healing. I have to pack it daily with a wet bandage, covered by a dry one and wear an abdominal binder over it.
  3. I finished eating a (cauliflower crust) slice of pizza and started feeling massive pain in my abdomen. I'd previously had an ulcer and though that it was back and acting up. I popped an anti-acid but the pain kept getting worse. I was standing over the toilet spitting up bile when I noticed a little blood mixed in. That's when I called emergency services and told them I needed to get to the ER asap. I got to the ER a little after midnight and had emergency surgery about 6 hours later. Those were the 6 longest and painful hours of my life.
  4. Thank you! I'm on a very high-calorie and high-protein diet to promote wound healing. I think I've changed my habits and lifestyle enough that I'll be able to keep most of my excess weight off. Only time will tell!
  5. I'm actually back at work today! ?It should take about two more weeks for the wound to heal. I have to pack and clean it daily, which isn't very fun.
  6. It's not really open. The incision is actually sutured at the lowest portion of the skin. The wound is left open like that so it heals and doesn't get infected. If you look closely you can see it's starting to close up at the top of the wound. Gastric Bypass reversal isn't a simple procedure but it's definitely possible, as you can see. Good luck with your surgery! I wouldn't let my complication worry you!!
  7. There's a risk associated with all bariatric surgery. What happened to me happens to under 1% of gastric bypass patients. It was just bad luck.
  8. On June 30th, I had my Gastric Bypass reversed, due to a hernia and small bowel obstruction ? It was a 6 hour open procedure. I was hospitalized for 9 days and it’s going to take a bit until I fully recover. After having some form of weight loss surgery since 2003, my anatomy has been put back to normal. I’m sad that I no longer have a tool to help me with my weight but I’m glad that I’m alive and able to talk about it. Thank you to my friends that prayed and supported me through this difficult time!
  9. This is uncalled for. Don’t post if you don’t have anything positive to add.
  10. Those looks really good. Shame that they’re only available in the UK. The BariatricPal Store carries some great protein shot options as well.

  13. I'm a huge podcast junky and would love to add another to my playlist. There are a few good WLS podcasts already but none that focus on fitness and nutrition. You might run out of topics after a while since it's a super niche topic, but it's a great idea.
  14. I personally love calcium chews. Either caramel or fruit flavor. You can find many options at the BariatricPal Store https://store.bariatricpal.com/collections/calcium. We carry Wellesse as well at https://store.bariatricpal.com/collections/calcium/products/wellesse-calcium-vitamin-d3-liquid
  15. I'd like to respectfully disagree. I wrote an article on this exact topic a little while ago... Flintstones Multivitamins: Tasty and Inadequate for Bariatric Surgery Patients “Complete” But Lacking Essential Nutrients What does a “complete” multivitamin contain? It could provide anything from all the essential nutrients to just a few. There is no legal definition for “complete.” In the case of Flintstones “Complete” multivitamin chewables, “complete” apparently means that it has all 13 vitamins, but only 6 of the more than 15 essential minerals that you need. Quantity Is Critical For bariatric surgery patients, it is not only important to get each of the necessary vitamins and minerals, but also to have the right amounts. You need high amounts of some of the vitamins and minerals, and Flintstones chewables simply do not deliver. For example, the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery (ASMBS) suggests at least 12 mg thiamin (vitamin B1) per day, while a chewable has 1.5 mg. You will also be short on: Vitamin A Vitamin D Vitamin E Vitamin B12 Iron Calcium And more. “Doubling Up” Does Not Work If one tablet is not enough, can’t you just take two? Well, not really. First, getting twice as much as certain nutrients may still leave you short. For example, 2 Flintstones chewables provide 1,200 IU of vitamin D, while recommendations for post-op gastric bypass patients are to get 3,000 IU per day. And no matter how many chewables you take, you will never get enough of essential minerals such as selenium and chromium, since the chewables have none. Multivitamin: What Is in a Name? We usually refer to them as “multivitamins,” but most often, we really mean, “multivitamin and mineral supplements.” Sometimes, a “multivitamin” that you buy off the shelf really is literally a bunch of vitamins with few or no minerals. Do not get confused by the name when purchasing your supplement. Read the supplement facts label to see which nutrients are in the supplement, and how much there is. Safe Choices, Your Way To be sure that you are getting the right supplement for bariatric surgery post-op needs, you are best off choosing a bariatric supplement. It may be a tad more expensive, but it could prevent deficiency diseases such as anemia or peripheral neuropathy. Choosing a bariatric surgery-targeted multivitamin instead of a kids’ supplement does not mean you have to choke down capsules if you cannot stand them. You can always opt for another form, such as Powder or a Soft Chew. For help figuring out which vitamin and mineral supplement may be right for you, you can look at the attached ASMBS guidelines or check out our Bariatric Vitamin Guide, which breaks down recommendations for each surgery type. Also, be sure to talk to your doctor about your individual needs before trying a supplement. ASMBS-Nutritional-Guidelines-2016-Update.pdf

  24. I agree 100% Same goes with Zero calories sweeteners like Splenda. Each packet does have (4) calories but under 5 calories per serving. “According to federal regulations, the terms ‘calorie free,’ ‘free of calories,’ ‘no calories,’ ‘zero calories,’ ‘without calories,’ ‘trivial source of calories,’ ‘negligible source of calories,’ or ‘dietarily insignificant source of calories’ may be used on the label or in the labeling of foods, provided that food contains less than 5 calories per reference amount customarily consumed and per labeled serving,” I'm personally not worried that these rules are what's causing the worldwide Obesity epidemic ?
