  1. My main reason for going with Dr. Aceves was bc I wanted to recover in a hospital. It was in a safe area of Mexico, that was also important to me. Also, all of the reviews I read of him where great. It is true that Dr. C did have the sleeve surgery and so did Ernesto, the driver, who will pick you up.They both look great. Ernesto has a before pic of him in his glove box, ask him to show it to you! They will both answer any questions you may have. I don't know much about Dr. Kelly but I do know that a lot of people speak highly of him and have had a great experience with him. Just remember that death can happen with any surgery. It is just one of the very, very slim risks. Any surgeon can have a death and it is sad and scary but it is true. This could happen with even the best surgeon out there. Best of luck to you in your decision! Let us know what you decide.
  2. Wow, Sarah! Great job! I am also Sarah! Even though we are all at different weights on this board each one of us can understand why you want to have this surgery! You will do great with the sleeve, you have already proven that by losing so much weight. The sleeve will be a tool to help you finish your weight loss. Keep us posted!
  3. Wow! You look great! You look so much younger! Thanks for sharing the pics!!!!
  4. If you fly Southwest and you are checking in a bag is does NOT cost extra. If you go with another airline they will charge you per bag that you check in so keep that in mind when you are booking your flight. Southwest may be a little higher but when you factor in the baggage fee that you have to pay with the other airlines I have still found that Southwest is cheaper.
  5. Yes! If it's too thick for you just add some milk to thin it out. I love to add a scoop of Protein powder to the sugar free pudding, it tastes so good!
  6. When I was at that stage my favorite thing to eat was pureed potato soup. I put it in the blender with some chicken broth, cheese and plain greek yogurt (for extra protein). It was so creamy and good!
  7. I will watch for this, thanks. It's not my drain incision that I am having trouble with, it's a tiny one on the other side!
  8. I was actually surprised myself! It seemed to be healed already, all of the other incisions are fine. I check them daily and didn't notice anything until last night when I scratched it!
  9. I was a huge water drinker before surgery and was nervous about the drinking part as well. The first couple days you take tiny sips. You learn quickly how to sip bc if you gulp you get air and it doesn't feel good. After a week or so you can start drinking more at a time, at least that is what was true for me. Now that I am almost 5 weeks out I daily get in my 64 ounces and usually more. Liquids go down easy for me. I don't gulp them down but I can take a few sips at a time instead of one at a time. The hardest part for me is not being able to drink while I eat! I hate it. I am so thirsty while I am eating that I don't even feel like taking more than a couple of bites of food. I just want to be done eating so that I can wait 1/2 hour to drink. I have tried to drink a little while I eat but it just didn't feel good when I tried.
  10. I also had a great experience with Dr. Aceves. As everyone says, you have to do your research and decide what you feel is best for you!
  11. I am a little over a month post-op and I noticed today that one of my incisions seems to be infected. Last night my stomach was itching where my incision was. I didn't even think about it and I scratched it, I then realized I scratched the scab off of the incision. It didn't hurt or anything and I didn't think much of it. Today it was a little tender so I looked at it and there was some puss that came out of it (sorry, it's gross). I immediately washed it and put some antibiotic cream on it and covered it with gauze. It is a little red but not puffy and it is tender if I touch it. All of my other incisions are completely healed. Has this happened to anyone else? Any ideas as to what to do? I was thinking I would keep the ointment on it over the next couple of days and if it gets worse by Monday I will go and see my doctor. Of course, if I get a fever or anything like that I will go to the ER.
  12. I am almost 5 weeks post op and I am also one who didn't have any pain or nausea. I didn't even have the gas pain that a lot of people talk about from having your stomach pumped up with gas. I felt like I had done a really hard ab workout but it wasn't painful. I was up and walking a couple hours after surgery. I didn't have any pain by my drain site. I'm not saying that I didn't feel anything at all but what I did feel wasn't painful .I also haven't been nauseated at all since surgery. That is something I was really scared of so I am very thankful it didn't happen! I have been eating slowly so I haven't felt nauseated from eating either. I haven't once questioned why I did this to myself. Since the surgery I have been doing well. I get tired out more than usual but I have quite a bit of energy. I rest when I need to and try not to over do it. I am not supposed to be lifting heavy things for the first 6 weeks. This has been the biggest adjustment for me. I am used lifting and bending and pulling most things myself so having to get the family to help with these things and not being able to just get it done myself has been the hardest part. Everyone has different reactions after surgery. This was my first surgery and I didn't know what to expect. It wasn't bad at all for me and I hope you will have a great experience like I did!
  13. That's not silly at all! I love this nsv!
  14. Wow! You look awesome! Thanks for sharing the pics! You look like a totally different person! Great job!
  15. I am hoping that some experienced sleevers will take a few minutes and give me a sample menu of what you eat in a day. I am starting regular foods tomorrow and I am not sure what to eat. I am clear to eat anything now but I'm just not sure how to start. I would love to see what you eat/ate and how much and how often. This is a sample day of what I eat right now on soft foods: I have a hard time getting much of anything in me at a time. I have 2 Protein drinks a day which is a total of 80 grams of protein. Breakfast: Protein Drink, mixed in 15 oz Water, takes about 20 minutes to drink. I have a hard time eating anything in the morning and the protein drink seems to be best for me, I was the same way bf surgery. Snack: String cheese Lunch:1/2 cup refried Beans with cheese and greek yogurt. It takes me at least an hour to eat this usually longer and I can't usually finish it all Snack: A few bites of watermelon or another string cheese Dinner: Not hungry at all but make myself have a few bites of Soup and cottage cheese Snack: Protein Drink In addition to this I also drink at least 60 oz. of water a day and have a couple of sugar freepopsicles. What do you think? How can I incorporate regular foods in my diet and still get all of the protein I need? I am nervous bc I can't eat very much at one time, although I can drink just fine.
  16. Yay! August 1st will be here before you know it! Congratulations!
  17. Great job! How exciting! :clap2:
  18. Thanks for updating! I am glad you got fluids that should help a bunch. Please keep us posted when you see the GI doctor and let us know what he says.
  19. Oh no, I am so sorry! Please keep us updated please.
  20. It's hard to stick to a plan, and, I agree 5 weeks seems like a long time. The doctor must have a reason for what he is saying and has his way of doing things. I agree with the others about sticking to the plan he gave you. Your sleeve is tender and healing and you need to give it time to do so. The hardest part for me is the mind. My mind was always thinking about food. It's much better now that I am on soft foods. My suggestion would be to try to keep yourself busy with something and that will help you get through the next month! Soon 30 days will be gone and you will be thinking about how fast it went by, I promise!
  21. Keep sipping! I know it's hard. It's all you think about the first week two after you get home from the hospital, or in your case, while you are still in the hospital! Does it hurt when you drink or are you just not getting enough in? Ask for some popsicles or ice chips....some people do have trouble with cold things right after surgery but I loved them so much better than room temp or warm drinks! Hang in there and keep sipping, walk and sip and sip and sip and sip! You can do this.
  22. Good to know, thanks for the update. Hope you are feeling better soon!
  23. Didn't you meet with a nutritionist or at least get paperwork from your doctor explaining these things to you? If I remember correctly you said in an earlier post that you are on full liquids for 5 weeks, is that correct? If so I would stick to the full liquids. Refried Beans and cottage cheese are on my soft foods list. You should have a detailed list stating what you can eat and when and what kind of diet you should be on. I still have my list from the surgeon/nutritionist that I met with in the US and I was also given paperwork and met with a nutritionist in Mexico that explained all of this to me before the surgery. I had to be on Clear Liquids for 10 days, full liquids for 10 days and soft foods for 10 days and then could resume regular foods. (I am currently on soft foods). All doctors have different requirements which is why it's best to check with your doctor and see what they require for you specifically and then stick to it.
  24. Wow! Great job, you look awesome! The pants even look a little big on you in the pic! Your hair looks cute with bangs. Thanks for sharing the pics.
  25. Please update when you get back so we know what happened and how you are doing. I will be thinking about you today.
