  1. How long until you can drive after surgery?
  2. I don't have my surgery until the 24th so I'm not sure if it's normal. I was wondering if you have thyroid problems? I know when mine is low that I am freezing all the time till I up my meds. This has happened to me many times when I lose weight, I freeze and have to get my meds bumped up.
  3. You will have to come look for me because I will be in surgery the day you get there! Can't wait to meet you!
  4. You look great! Thanks for sharing the pictures!
  5. When I first started looking into WLS and found this board I was reading about people going to Mexico to have surgery. I thought to myself that "those" people are crazy! I would never do something like that. Because I thought it was so crazy it intrigued me to keep looking into it. I soon found out that my insurance requirements changed and I would have to wait longer for the surgery along with paying more out of pocket than I had thought. I read so many positive things about Dr. Aceves and that is why I choose him over any other surgeons in Mexico. I also talked to Nina, a patient coordinator, on the phone and I loved how she put me at ease and answered all of my questions. I have read about some other good surgeons in Mx, and I know that some of them are cheaper that Dr. Aceves. This is the decision that I made for myself and I know there are many others out there who have had good outcomes and love their surgeons in Mx. All you can do is look around, ask questions and do what is best for you. Oh, Dr. Aceves is located in Mexicali.
  6. I am scheduled for May 24th with Dr. Aceves in Mexico. Kara, I am also from Wisconsin. I live in the Milwaukee area. There are a lot of May sleevers...exciting!
  7. For those that have tipped...did you tip each time they drove you? How much did you tip?
  8. Congratulations. I love reading about how people feel after surgery!
  9. I am having my surgery done with Dr. Aceves. I just started googling about doctors in Mexico to see what I could find out. I read, read and read so more and I also called the doctors offices to find out as much as I could.
  10. This may seem like a strange question for those of you who have had surgery in Mexico...do you tip the drivers??
  11. Exciting! I have found a ton of info on this site, keep looking. I also googled and found lots of info. For me, the surgeon that I met with in the gave me a lot of information. I went to a nutrition class that was filled with info, too and that helped a lot.
  12. Thank you! I am so very thankful that my husband has been blessed with a good job and I am able to get this done so quickly. The few months will fly by for you!
  13. I have been lurking around for some time now but decided I will join in and tell my story. I started looking into WLS a couple of years ago but at that time my insurance didn't cover it. In the fall my husband started a new job so a few months ago I called the insurance company and on the new insurance it is covered. I was so excited! I found a surgeon that I liked and went in for my exam and decided on the sleeve. I started my 3 month diet that was required for surgery and did a bunch of tests that were also required. Not too long ago I found out that my insurance had changed some of it's requirements. I had read on here about a lot of people who had gone to Mexico for the surgery. At first I thought (no offense) that all of you who went to Mexico were nuts! I kept reading about everyone's experience with Dr. Aceves and decided to give them a call to ask some questions. This was last week. I talked to Nina and there is a special going on if you have your surgery in May. With all of the excellent reviews I have read about Dr. Aceves I decided to talk to my husband about this and see if it was an option. He agreed that it would be fine for me to go ahead and have the surgery done with Dr. Aceves. My date is May 24th. Anyone else going to be there at that time?? This has all gone so quickly and I can't even believe it is really happening and I am so excited and a bit nervous at the same time. I am sure the nerves will kick in even more a few days before I leave. I keep thinking to myself that I can't wait to be me again. I never grew up heavy, in fact I was thin until I was in my 20's. I have been obese for over 15 years now and am looking forward to my new life that is right around the corner! I am sure I will have more questions and comment more as the days get closer but for now I just wanted to say "hi".
