Freedom Challenge
Ok, my hubby hide the scale from me...because I was weighting myself everyday and not liking what the scale said. But, my last weigh in was on Thursday, so I weighed in at 180. I lost 0 lbs this week! :-( this was actually my first fill week. Very discouraged this week. Hope it's better next week. P.s. I met one of my goals, I fit in my size 14 shorts/pants (from 2yrs ago and they still had tags on them. ) and they are loose! :-) and been walking and swimming this week.

Loose skins question for those under 30 yrs olda
I think I depends, how long you were overweight and genectics may also help, in addition to youth. I am 39 yrs old, have 2 kids but, I have been overweight for 15 yrs...by the looks of my tummy, I don't think it will ever be back. It just hangs over like a flap. I still have alot more weight to lose. I am just hoping I can get a TT in the future.

NSV
My was last week, I bought these outfits about 2 years ago and they never fit size 14 and I put them on and they all fit and a bit loose. Then I tried on some of my regular clothes that I wore before surgery they were hanging off of me. Feels good! So, far I have lost 27 lbs and I am on my 8th week post op.

HOW MUCH IN ONE MEAL
You may not be losing weight, because you are having too few calories. I was told .5 to 1 cup of food, protein should be half of the small plate, I eat off my kids plates or the appetizer size ones. And 1/4 veggies, 1/4 starch last to eat. I have not lost anything in a week and it is fustrating. I think I need to try to add more exercise and water intake. I aver. 900 cal. A day.

Plateau Already??
I am going thru what you are...i eat 900 cal. A day and up to now I lost 24 lbs. 8 weeks post op and I am at a halt exactly, where I have always been in the past. I have not been under 180 in over 13 yrs and of course, I am stuck there. I too need to lose 60 more lbs. But, even though I don't see the scale going down, I feel my clothes falling off or my very tight clothes actually fitting me. I just got my first fill last week and I haven't budged in weight. I think, I was having too few cal. 500 cal now I am back to 900 cal. And hoping to reach one of my mini goals by this week. I am going to try to drink more water. Lately, even though I have been drinking 64 oz, I have been waking up thirsty. Could be due to the warm weather. Good luck to you and hang in there!

What am I doing wrong??
I am now 8 weeks post op and I feel it has been slow, too! On my preop I lost 8lbs, then after surgery I gained 10lbs, I guess it was fluid retetion due to the iv's, post op I was following my food intake exactly and barely eating 500 calories for 2 weeks post op, lost very little like maybe 2 lbs, as soon as I added mushy foods and increasing my calorie intake with an additional protein shake or light bel cheese to 900 cal. Weight started coming off like 2 lbs a week. I think, my metabolism slowed down because it thought I was in starvation mode. Just add a additional protein shake a couple of days and then go back to 1000 cal to see if it helps. But, don't get discouraged. Keep eating healthy and drink your water. I know it's tough. But we are all on this journey with you.

Jealousy
I only told my family and select friends who knew I was struggling with diabetes. People who I knew who would support me and keep it to themselves. However, I do have friends that wouldn't understand because I really didn't share my medical history with them. I also have one friend that compares everything I do and before surgery when I use to diet she would watch and question everything I ate or did exercise. She is also overweight, but I feel she is envious of me even before surgery. I would buy a cute outfit some where. She would ask where I got and then go out and buy it. I cannot tell you how many times she we would go to a party, almost dressed like me!!! I know, psycho!!! If she knew I got lapband everyone in town would know because she can't even keep a secret with her own dirty laundry. She would be even worse if she knew I got lapband. She tries every fad diet and then a week later is off to fast food places 10 times a week. After having lapband I realize who my real friends are and realize they are the ones I have trusted with my health issues, their the ones that saw me struggle and cry when I thought I was going to be on insulin. My jealous friend, I avoid and keep a good distance apart. If she asks what I am doing or if anyone asks I tell them high protein, low carb diet, and I am doing it to improve my diabetes. To me it's the truth, not all ppl need to know our medical history ....my advice is avoid the negative ppl and keep the positive ppl close. And be proud of yourself, because you are working hard to be healthy and this was not an easy way out. Your taking responsibility in your life. Good luck to you and keep positive! :-)

coffie
I had coffee a week after and since then I drink about a cup a day. I am not a big coffee drinker. My doc. Didn't say anything. As long as I drink extra water cause it can cause dehydration.

Emotional Stages of Lapband
- Coffee
I am 5 wks post op and I couldn't go without a tiny bit of coffee either. I had my first cup at 3 wks out and I only drink one cup a day when needed. I don't drink as much as I use to. When I do I makesure I drink extra Water on those days. A half of cup won't hurt you. All depends what you put in it. I put splenda and fat free half and half or sugar free creamer.- using myfitnesspal.com
My story is just like yours...I am 5 weeks post op and almost 20 lbs down (8lbs preop diet and the 11 post op) I also use my fitness pal. I love it! The last 2 weeks I was barely at 600 cal. And only lost 1 lb. This week due to being on my 5th post op week and being able to eat more the last 2 days I have hit 900 cal. And have lost a pound a day. I feel very satisfied. I try not to concentrate on calories, just portions and the amt of Protein needed. I have my first fill on July 12th. I hope I can drop at least 15 to 20 lbs next month. I have not had any complications and I pretty much feel normal. I do stick to my food list only, but have not been to the gym yet. Hoping to get back at it after the 4th of July, since we will be on vacation. I do walk alot. I set my fitness pal goal to 900 cal.- Not losing what I thought I would
I had surgery on the 27 of May, and came home from hospital 8lbs heavier! But, I know that was do to the fluids they were giving me. I am sticking to everything by the book and I lost the 8lbs and now from my preop weight I am down 3 lbs. Not the numbers I want to See either. I just feel that this is the easy part, when I actually start eating semi solids it's going to be even harder. I have been jounaling my food/liquid intake and I barely hit 500 cal. A day. Barely get 60 g of Protein. I get my first restriction on the 7/8 . So far so good, haven't had any complications. It is fustration to know I have been on liquids for 14 days and only be down 3 lbs. I know, I know...We just need to use patience, and heal and not worry if it is not on our own timetable. Still new to website, so I am looking for some friends....:-) Chrissy- unhappy hubby
Well, thanks everyone for your support! Turns out you were all right, he was nervous and worried about me, in addition to work obligations. He apologized in the a.m. and said he wants me to have surgery because he wants me to be healthy and grow old together. I went through with the surgery and he stood by myside the entire time, he even stayed overnight with me in the hospital. I am five days out and I am healing day by day. I ended up having a hiatal hernia repair and that hurt a bunch! Today, is my first day feeling I can go without pain meds. I am happy I got it done. Looking forward to sharing my journey with you.- unhappy hubby
I have been planning to get lapband for almost two years, one year just thinking about and struggling to keep my diabetes in check. I have communicated with my hubby about this and why I want it done. I am tired of taking all my meds and always being at that borderline almost going on insulin. My husband seemed to always be supportive and wants a healthy wife and mother. Well, today, the day before my surgery, he seemed so distance and I felt i wasn't getting the support I needed. Trying to get the kids watched over by friends, planning meals, pickups and even getting all the bills paid, along with getting house and laundry all done. Well, I confronted him and told him I felt some tension and told him what I needed. And he exploded on me! I just can't believe it and now...I just feel this is not what I need right now and I am going to be going through a lot of changes and now he shows me he is not happy about it! My surgery is set for 9 am. I am still going through with it. And now, feel with no support.- Trying to understand cc's and different band sizes?
Hi, I am not sure what size band I am getting. i thought, all the bands were the same size. How many sizes are there and what is the most common sized used? Also, need information on cc's how much is a good amount for your first restriction? What is too much and too little? Just curious...- what happens if you start your preop diet late?
Thanks! So far so good today....just trying to get my Water in.- what happens if you start your preop diet late?
I will be having my surgery on Friday, May 27th and I was suppose to be on a low cal diet 500 cal. and two Protein shakes a day starting on the May 19th. Well, just started today. I can tell you lots of reasons why, but they are just excuses. My birthday, I left out of town to visit family, final exams, etc, but that is life right! I know, I am a bit nervous, but, if I can't even do a 500 cal. diet and Protein Shakes, how am I going to do with the lapband? Ugh! So, far so good today. no hunger pains yet....I start my clear liquid diet the day before surgery. Too scared to jump on scale and embarrassed to see I did not lose weight before preop. :-/ I will be having surgery at Cedars Sinai in West LA, CA. By Dr. Cunneen.- Tomorrow is my BIg Day!!!!
Hi, I will be having my surgery on Friday and all of sudden my parents support is not what it was before. Unbelievable. I know they are worried, but, it's not like I haven't tried. I need help and the LB is a tool to help me. I am nervous and excited too! Not sure, what emotional changes my hubby will go thru either. He met me as a big girl and not sure if he is going to like the skinny girl. Too be honest, I don't even know what I am going to feel like. But, all I know I will be healthy and live longer for my kids. My hubby seems supportive but, not sure what is going through his head either. Sometimes men have a hard time expressing themselves. I am sure you husband is concerned and worried about you. Good luck to you! I am still new to this forum, so I sent you a friend request. Prayers are being sent! - Coffee
