low calorie intake...bad?
I was told to limit my carbs to 40 per day, but that oatmeal & mashed potatoes are allowed - I just have to count them. Of course, this is coming from someone not sleeved and only "book smart" at this time. But, if you are feeling weak and not getting enough calories/protein in, I think it makes sense to try something.

How do you determine quantity?
Your doctor or nutritionist should be able to tell you the amount to take. After your post-surgery labs (6 weeks out or so), they may have to adjust them a bit.

I'm trying sooooo hard...
Have you tried Kelloggs Protein H2O? It has 5g of protein & 6 carbs, but at this point, a little may be better than nothing. I actually LIKE the pink lemonade. In fact, I am sipping on some now.

Week out
Thank goodness I'm not the only "odd" one out here! :lol0:

Anyone just starting the process???
If the denial was based only on the missing psy eval, there should be no problem with a quick appeal process. Just take deep breaths. I'm sure your doctor's office is used to the red tape and the process - they will help you out.

Why? ? ?
:lol0: :001_tt2: :biggrin0: :lol0: :001_tt2: :crying: :biggrin0: :lol0: :001_tt2:  :biggrin0: :lol0: :001_tt2: :001_rolleyes: :biggrin0: I do know what you mean. Understand the limitations and move forward. I am also glad to know that there is removal of negative comments about surgeons since it helps me to be a better consumer. I value this board also - it's been great to get so many options, opinions, and thoughts of people who have had or are considering the surgery. Thanks!

Sample Letter of Support
Sorry - My doctor just did this simple letter & attached all the records. Hopefully someone else out there has a different example. Best of luck!

I don't heart the scale....or monthly periods!
I have some of the same issues - I can between 5 - 7 pounds when my period is about to start. I also have HUGE cravings for sweets and chips/salsa. I hope my sleeve can help me work around it. The head I have to deal with, but at least my tummy won't be sending me signals as well.

Surprise! Sugar Addiction!
I've definitely had the headaches with sugar withdrawal. Tylenol may help with it, but it didn't help me much. Just keep plugging along. You are almost there!

i need a buddy
I'm about 8 weeks behind you, so I'm not sure if I would be a good support or not. I'm sure someone on the boards will be willing. If not, send me a PM and we can help each other out.

Sample Letter of Support
Hopefully this will help. My letter was very simple - they just attached it to my labs and post op exam notes (on clinic letterhead): Dr. _________: After post op exam on ________, Sally Jane, DOB xx/xx/xx, is cleared to proceed with surgery for a gastric sleeve. Sincerely, Dr. Smith xxx-xxx-xxxx

What Size Bougie Did They Use On You?
My doctor uses a 36 - he says it leaves a space comparable to a thumb when everything is said and done. It will hold between 60 and 90 cc. There is a great thread out here to give you a visual ... Boughie size comparison Welcome and best of luck!

I need help!
Thanks JageK - I hope I didn't offend. That was not my intent at all. I sincerely apologize if I came across that way. I was telling Tiff in a PM that I think I've got a good case of cold feet. My surgery is next Wednesday and I think I kinda panicked when I saw an experienced sleever asking for help. Yes, I realize this is a tool and it will change the way I eat forever. I know that if I work around the tool I will have weight loss/gain issues. I wasn't very helpful with your plea and I for that I am sorry. I was being selfish - I too have this addiction/disease and I so desperately want to succeed. The best of luck to you. My nut and paperwork are very clear - follow the plan and you will succeed. She wants me to write everything down that I put in my mouth - including 64 oz of Water a day. Hopefully if you focus on the basics you will meet your goal in no time.

4 days our and - BORED OUT MY MIND!!!
I love my Wii Fit - I call it my trainer with attitude. If you miss a day, it holds you accountable. If you don't do well on an event it says something "Hmmm ... That doesn't seem to be your thing." I think you will quickly progress beyond the Wii Fit. The good news is that the Wii Fit Plus only costs $19.99. That has a lot more functionality. Good luck with whatever you choose.

I need help!
I guess I'm really confused. What could you be eating that is "so bad" that you would stop losing weight? I keep hearing from everyone "you just can't fail" ... you eat less and you lose weight. Are people really maintaining at 1200 calories? If so, how is that possible. Doesn't the human body need more calories to exist? 1200-1500 is what I've always done to lose weight ... Of course, my problem is keeping it off. Can someone chime in? I'm starting to wonder if this is the right tool for me. I don't want to diet the rest of my life. Eat healthy and make good choices, yes. But not diet - no more WW, Jenny Craig, Nutrisystem, etc.

Revision Costs?? Double Dipping!!
The best way to understand the breakdown is to ask for an itemized estimatation of services. That will show you what is being paid for each procedure - including OR time and room charges.

List of can and can't eat pre-op?
My pre-op diet is 2 Protein shakes a day plus one meal of lean protein and veggies. If I need more food, I can supplement with low-calorie veggies and sugar free jell-o. I must admit, I panicked at first. But, I'm not as hungry as I thought I would be. (I just finished Day 6.)

I have less than 24 hours!!!!!!!!!!!!
How exciting! My turn is next week & I think I might be doing some of that crying in the bathroom too. But, I'm absolutely certain this is the right thing for me. Yeah losers!

Mushie food ideas?
I know everyone has different ideas, so it's best to ask your nutritionist (nut). Mine told me to limit my carb intake to 15 per meal. So, that would be 45 a day. Some go lower and some people aren't given any real restrictions. My best advice is see what works for you. Start with your nut guidelines and then modify as you find best. That being said, I want to note that she told me not to worry about any of that during my liquid and puree phase. At that time, my priority is to be Water and then, Protein. Then, she wanted me to start watching the carbs - 3oz protein, veggies, then fruit.
