Day of eating(drinking) - Full liquids
You are high speed! I am on full liquids ( 3 weeks out ) moving into mushies and just started tracking my food today. So far today (Breakfast and lunch) I am at Calories 195 - this is 1/2 Atkins shake and 1/2 Jiff Peanut Butter to go (+water) What are you eating? I have been afraid to push myself to try more foods.

Taco Bueno's Chicken Tortilla soup
I <3 tortilla soup!!! The broth is good even without all the goodies. Hopefully I will be able to enjoy the chicken in the Soup too (eventually). You are not alone!!!

Been sleeved 6 days...
Oh I was there girl... No lie. Drink as much liquid as you can. I had to use SF pops because drinking Water hurt so bad. The cotton mouth will go away. The JP drain hurt like hell coming out. I was shocked how big the tubing is!!! GROSS! My big incision hurt, and still does - 3 weeks out. But it is healing. I have to be careful how I move or what side I sleep on. Otherwise, things get better!!! :cheers2:

Afraid to eat
Thanks!! Yep - 29 lbs... hard to believe. The funny thing is, I am still wearing the same size pants. I don't get it!!! Grrr! I notice the loss in my thighs (thnak goodness) and boobs (cry cry cry). LOL Well I pushed myself and I had Peanut Butter, a tiny bite of green bean and a real baked potato. I think going low carb will be hard since I relied on mashed potatoes for my mushies... eek! I will keep you updated!!

Afraid to eat
So Dr. O's diet restrictions lighten up at 3 weeks BUT I am too scared to eat. I know it sounds crazy but I take the smallest bites of mashed potato - which is the thickest thing I have had so far. I was living on broth, SF pop and thin cream soups. I moved onto mashed potatoes but that's it. My last visit with the NP I was told to start eating. Imagine that?!?! Me? Not eating and having to be told to eat?!?! There is some comfort in full liquids - they feel good going down. And warm soups feel very good!!! So yeah, there is a bit of fear about trying new foods and testing out my new tiny tummy. Any advice for this big chicken sleever?!?!

One month out
Congrats Erin! Sounds like you are doing wonderful!!

Starbucks on full liquids?
I am 2 weeks post op and my diet allows for full milk shakes at this stage (full liquids).

Starbucks on full liquids?
My Dr allows coffee but in moderation. You can definitely use decaf if you want. For me, two spoonfuls of coffee isn't a thing. The thinking behind the decaf is that coffee may stimulate hunger. I believe that is suggestive based on the amount consumed. But to each their own.

STALL!
I am 2 weeks post op and right there too. STALL. In fact I gained 2 lbs when I went on full liquids. I eat maybe 1 can of Soup strained and divided up throughout the day. I have a coupe SF pops and my Water. Not much else. Really sad about this even though I heard people venting on the forums post op. I am trying not to weigh myself everyday. That only adds to my sadness about the situation. That and people asking if I have lost X amount of weight yet... GRRRR>..

Dizzy Feeling
Kara, I am right there with you. I am on full liquids - 2 weeks out - and barely get 250 cals per day. I push my Water, not as much as I should, though. But I get dizzy so much. My blood pressure is fine, so I am sure it is the water or low food intake. My advice to anyone feeling dizzy, call the Dr. He or she will better direct you. They know your history and can ask more pointed questions. If you pass out and hit your head, you could end up in the ER. Not good. Stay safe!

Did I mess up full liquids?
Thanks!! lesson learned!!

Un-break my heart
One day at a time... that's all I can do. And when he starts his fussing, I just kill him with kindness. Dr Phil said, one person has to stand up and say I will make enough changes for the both of us. When the changes no longer help then.. well then it is time to rethink the relationship. So my change, not fussing back at him. I will just be me...

BMI too low
How far from 40 BMI are you? I was at 37 and need to be 40 to qualify since I don't have any co-mo's. So eating more wasn't really an option but I did quit dieting. I also drank about 2 jugs of Water before I went to my weigh in appointment. I will say that some insurance companies require a BMI history. Luckily, mine did not require this. So I made my weigh in... went home and pee out a few pounds and took a massive... well. You get the picture. LOL Gaining 25 is not a good option. I have heard of people using the ankle weights, but put them in your bra so no one sees them... or wear very long, baggy jeans. You could even... just saying.. wear one as a pad. LOL I know.. but it is an idea and at 4 lbs each, well, you might be over 40 BMI haha!! Oh last tip... don't stand so dang tall.If you are an inch shorter, you instantly go down on the BMI scale. Good luck. If it is meant to be, it will be.

How did your kids handle the change(s) in you?
Hi there! My eldest daughert (14) has Aspergers and ADHD as well. She did really well with my surgery although she was crazy nervous. She bit her nails down till they bled. She wanted to stay by my side, even when my hubby and other daughter went to the hotel to swim and relax. I took some extra time to explain to her what was happening. I wanted her to feel OK about what was happening. I knew I had to break it down in a way she could understand. My youngest daughter (4) thought this was a vacation! LOL She got to stay in a hotel and swim everyday. I was held for 5 days in the hospital and that was heaven for her. LOL I tried to explain surgery to her but she didn't get it. And I didn't want to push it anymore. I let her enjoy her little vacation. One thing, I had to constantly (and still do) remind her not to come lay on mommy. She loves to cuddle. So I lay on the bed, put a pillow on my tummy and let her cuddle to the side of me. I try to give some room so she can hurt me. She gets her cuddle time and my tummy stays safe. Now on the flip side... I had a co worker call me yesterday. I am 2 weeks post op and this (@&$ asked if I lost 100 lbs yet... insert his laughter here. But really? That kind of hurt. Esepecially since I did NOT tell my co workers what kind of surgery I was having. He assumed. Which leads me to believe that they all assumed that. So yeah jerk, I lost 100 lbs in 2 weeks... did you? LOL Ugh. Ok moving on! I will be honest, 2 weeks out and not losing is making me wonder if this surgery will work for me. I was losing great on my pre op diet and right after surgery and now nothing. I hope that it is just a stall due to moving into full liquids. We shall see. No fear hun. Things will be ok. Just take some extra time explaining the situation. And dont forget to stock up on hugs!!! Good luck!

Did I mess up full liquids?
Ok so we went out for lunch and there was nothing on the menu I could have. So after my family finished eating, we went to Chik FilA and I got chicken Soup. They were nice enough to give me extra broth (I am on full liquids). So I had my broth and was set! I saved the rest for dinner. I got this wild idea to just throw the rest of my soup in my Magic Bullet and blend with some extra broth to thin it out. Well I threw it all in, noodles, carrots and chicken chunks. I blended it up, heated it up and drank most of it. Now I feel so sick. Was it the blended noodles? Was it the blended veg? My tummy is so freaking full, it hurts. I have horrible gas pains. Maybe I ate too fast or too much but I have to wonder - was it the blended soup?!?! Note to self - just because you liquidify it, doesn't make it OK on full liquids... hahahaha SMH!! Side note - it tastes FREAKING AMAZING hahaah Thanks in advance!

Starbucks on full liquids?
Ok so I am so bored of my shakes and broths post op. But I was sitting on a gold mine this whole time and did not realize it!! My new fav-O shake!! 1 rounded scoop of Bariatric Advantage chocolate mix (or any brand) 1/2 cup skim milk 1/4 instant coffee (made mine super strong) 1/2 cup ice 1 tsp vanilla extract 2 tsp Torani SF Caramel syrup Blend Blend Blend! OMG seriously?!? I am a Starbucks fanatic and this taste just like one of the low fat fraps!! This is my new all time fav shake. Have more ideas? Please let me know... I am still waiting to try some of EB's shakes but I really would like some off the wall flavors!!! Enjoy!

ANY JUNE SLEEVERS OUT THERE???
Hey Jewels~! Just a little update on me (sleeved 6/6/11). Doing well overall. Some minor pain at the big incision. Can sleep on my side - either side - as long as I use a pillow to prop up my leg and against my tummy. (( Sorry hubby, no cuddling yet...) LOL Umm that brings me to a TMI question people like to ask... yes "IT" was possible and "IT" was great!! LMAO Granted it was very easy going and gentle. Have to be extra careful this early out. OK moving hahaha... what am I eating... B - Powerade Zero, Water, 1/2 serving of Protein shake... whatever I can get in. L - still finishing breakfast!! LOL and D - when I really seem to be hungry - water, shake, lots of SF pops and Cream of Potato Soup (strained out). This diet is getting dull but in 2 weeks I get to add mushies.. so I am excited. Let's see, what else? Umm BM? Check.. VERY small, yet normal. Hunger pangs? Yep, like I said, dinner and after is my hungriest time. But I watch a lot of food Network at night, so that might add to my hunger. Energy? Hmm so-so. The PowerAde Zero has helped and plus I can drink gulps of water now. I feel hydrated although I am sure I could use more. Last, but not least, I have a hematoma in my pelvic/groin area. It is the size of a golf ball, no pain unless prodded and is just ugly. Otherwise, no issues!! Tip of the day - buy stock in sugar free pops... because I am going through them like crazy!! LOL!!! :cheer2: Congrats to all the Jewels that were sleeved this last week!!! YAY!!! And next week Jewels... wooosa! It will be fine. No worries!

Day 4 Post OP - farts and poop oh my
I was sleeved 6/6/11 and still have incision pain at my big incision. I spoke to my Dr today (he actually calls me every couple days) and he said it was normal. Just pop a pain pill if I needed it - which I haven't. Sounds like you are doing pretty good! I will be happy when I get to mushy foods... I am so tired of pops and cream soup hahah!!

2 weeks post op & Stomach bloated....
Hi there!! I am 2 weeks post op and having this issue. In fact I had to take my bra off the other day because it was sitting on the bloated area. I went to the Dr and they said it was normal - no fluids trapped under the skin. So I go bra-less LMAO SMH and take my Gas-X. I am also walking more and it seems to go down little by little. So far I do not think it is anything to worry about. Good luck hun.

Problems
Sorry to hear your story. Glad your OK now. Question - did you get Gallbladder meds after your VSG? My Dr started me on meds 7 days post op and I have to continue for 6 months.
-
Help, please! Chewable Multi Vitamins are making me sick!
Wow.. ok I thought I was going through this alone or that I was the odd ball. I had my VSG on 6/6/11 - like many of you - and cannot stomach the BA multi vites. I don't even bother with the calcium ones anymore because they are HUGE and cause a nasty foam and acid reaction. Not good! I would love to do Gummies. I didn't think to ask about it today at my one week post op visit... bummer. Good convo though!

Un-break my heart
Hey Stac and CCBC, after waiting an hour for him to come to bed last night, I went out to get some water (I already had a full glass.. LOL). When I passed him I said, you not coming to bed? He said oh yeah, just gaming. He quickly shut it off and came right to bed. He was all lovey dovey. IDK maybe he is bi-polar. I was happy he seemed ok. He was really fussing earlier over nothing. Today he is back to himself but I still have to wonder... what the heck is going on with him. I have taken both comments to heart and I will try to be more understanding as well as show more attention. I will see if that works. I just hope that people know losing weight isn't going to make your spouse love you more. If the love is gone, nothing is going to help unless both parties make an effort. I just read The Emotional First Aid Kit for bariatric patients which touches on the whole post op weight loss jealousy. A spouse may be very worried (like CCBC said) about your getting all sexy and leaving them. I have been married 5 yrs and have 2 kids. There is nothing more important to me than family, but emotional abuse is NOT acceptable - no matter what is going on around you. If he does this again, we will need to have a heart to heart.

Un-break my heart
You get this surgery because you want a better life for yourself and your family. But what happens when your spouse doesn't want a better life for anyone except themself? How much do you take before you just throw in the towel? I had my VSG on Monday 6/6/11. Things were rough, I stayed in the hospital 5 days instead of 1. During my 5 days in the hospital I saw my spouse maybe 45 minutes total. He was too busy swimming at the hotel, shopping at the mall and eating out. He says he was keeping the kids busy. Ok. Getting liquids in is a real pain. But you know what, I am a fighter - so I am finding ways!! I sit here across from the one person that is supposed to be my biggest cheerleader and well, to be honest, he is my biggest critic. It is getting old. Many of my friends have said "once you lose weight, you will leave him". I blew it off as rubbish because I love my husband. But the more he curses at me, the more he yells for no freaking reason, the more he sits around complaing about everyone and everything - the more I have to wonder - how long can you kick an injured dog before she bites the $%*@ out of you!?!??! I am so close. Right there on the verge of just saying, you know what, pack you %$ and leave. If we didn't have kids maybe it would be easier. The surgery seems to have added stress to this situation 10 fold. He asked me what time my appointment tomorrow is and I said I don't know but the slip is on the fridge. He then progressed to curse me out for not remembering and told me that I should drive my @)#($&% self to the appointment - which I am not supposed to do - because he has a "hot date". yeah the whole "hot date" thing came out of left field. I don't know what his issue is. But seriously, I am so over it. I am here trying to heal, trying to take care of my kids and he acts like the 3rd child. He has not mentioned the 24 lbs I have lost already. He has not made any mention of any changes - and I can see it in my face. I mentioned how much I lost and he just blew me off. He continues to eat junk food right in front of me. Ok so what.... I am ok. I have been sucking it up. I will grab a SF pop or leave the room. I shouldn't put my families eating habits on hold because of me. I did say one night that I was so hungry and he looked at me said, "Too f)(**&^ bad, that was your decisions to have the surgery." OK WOW... blow me away. I knew he wasn't totally on board but he knew I had a mass inside my stomach that needed removal anyway. So the surgery was going to be bariatric or to remove the cancer mass. So why not both? Either way I would be losing weight because I wouldn't be able to eat normally for while. Why write this? Well I have no where else to vent I suppose. This is my blog and I am not one on not saying what is going on. Maybe I will look back on this entry and think I over reacted or maybe I will be divorced and wonder why I didn't leave earlier. Maybe I will shake my head because the same thing will be happening and I will have done nothing. No big shocker there either. Hopefully, I will look back and see that he was having issues and didn't know how to communicate very well - or at all. One good thing.. my VSG is totally preventing me from falling into a pile of alfredo pasta or pint of ice cream. Now I have to deal head on with my issues. If you think VSG will make your marriage better, think again. You will have to learn to deal with the issues in a new way, preferably with communication. I suppose this is one of many reasons post ops go into a deep depression. Who wants to bother your friends or family with this BS? Not me. So learn to process it and keep moving on. Will I go to my appointment alone tomorrow? If I do, damn sure there will be hell to pay. If not, good for him. He is safe for one more day from the dog bite. Cheers/

Soup question pls help!
Hey Tamz, I am on my 1st day of full liquids (8 days post op). My diet guide says thinned creamed soups (tomato, mushroom, chicken etc). I was hoping to have some Cream of Potato strained the chunks out and thinned with extra milk. Not sure if that was OK either. I am assuming that thinned out cream soups means the light versions as they are usually thinner. But if you add more milk than called for, the soup comes out thin anyway. I am going for my one week post op visit tomorrow and will ask for sure. I haven't tried pudding or yogurt yet. I am a litte weary I guess. Cold stuff still bothers my tummy - except popsicles which go down ok. How are you doing on your Water intake? Keep up the good work! :cheer2:

ANY JUNE SLEEVERS OUT THERE???
Lissa girl you got this. The first week - no lie - is hard as hell. But everyday gets a little bit better!! I am 8 days out and just had my first non broth treat - a SF fudgy pop - it was like heaven. I still have issues getting water in but I push, push and push!! I have not started focusing on protein but I will today or tomorrow. Everything will be ok!! Jewels of June!!
