Calling all June sleevers
My Special K Protein Water is my highlight LOL no Protein shake taste and kind of sweet. Some days I am wigging out, some days (like today) I am beaming with excitement!!! At least we all have each other to lean on!! I told my DH he should get me charm (or necklace) with a nice jewel on it - my surgery gift and Jewel of June award!!

First Mistake
Oh girl, temptation is everywhere!! Maybe you could buy some sugar free hard candies to have in case you get that urge again. The sad part is, most of us have to learn the hard way. I am sure it was not fun, but thank you for sharing. Maybe you can save one of us pre-sleevers from doing it. Hugs

Denied.................
Hi Rekeca, I have been where you are. I was denied by TriCare and Kaiser because I so too low BMI and didn't have history of BMI (Kaiser). I think you should definitely proceed with the appeal letter. And if all else fails, you can self pay (pricey, I know). Please check SleeveGenie's blog about her appeal letter: http://www.verticals...health-care-ca/ Good Luck !!!!

Chewable Vitamin taste...
My Dr had me buy the BA brand from their office. The taste is not too bad - actually. One of the people in my group made a statement when we did taste test of the Protein shakes and vitamins - he said, "I am so happy because this is my last chance to save my life - I wouldn't care if it all tasted like crap!" That really hit me hard. He wouldn't taste anything, he let the nurses pick for him. I really felt like a spoiled child because I kept fussing about the taste. His words still ring in my ears and I push through some of the not-so-tasty items LOL. Good Luck Wendy! Maybe you can get a sample of both and test them because everyone is very different on here in respect to their taste buds

Are you scared to have weight loss surgery
Suzanne, thank you for posting this... I am 2 weeks till surgery and the jitters are getting worse. Some days I am pumped, excited and ready to go and other days I am wondering about the "What if's". It is a bit disheartening when people say "Oh you are so young, you can do it without surgery" or "You aren't big enough for surgery". They don't know my struggle and other health issues. Your words mean a lot! You are truly an inspiration. :cheer2:

Reality sets in...
And so my story really begins: I got my date June 6th! I suppose I made it seem like I would never get approved, but that was mostly fear. I was psyching myself up to be let down. Well guess what, no let down! I got my date and I started my 2 week pre op diet. Nothing left to stop me but myself. I am excited and scared. Wish me luck and I will keep you updated! I <3 VST - you guys have helped me so much.... thank you all! <3 <3 Xox! Heather

Hi June Sleevers!!! I just got my date - June 6th! I am nervous, scared and excited!! I was calling my friends (that know about my WLS) and so chipper, then about an hour later I was almost in tears. I was thinking of all the what ifs and complications. I have been on this journey for years and just cant believe it is here!! It is finally my turn to take a seat on the losers bench! :cheer2: Let's support each other!! Hugs Heather xoxoxo

time off of work?
I am taking 1 week off and the second week I want to be on half days. My surgeon said he would give me 3 weeks if I needed it though. BTW I have a sedatary job - budget analyst. So no heavy lifting or anything to worry about. I just have to get up and walk every hour.

30 Days postOp - The good, the bad and the just ugghsome!
I am really glad you broke it down into days and good/bad points. It makes it so much easier for us pre-Sleevers to understand the emotional and physical journey post op! Congrats on your loss and keep up the good work! :cheer2:

Am I alone in my thinking?
Hi Mike, I don't think you are alone at all - in fact, I know you are not! Most of people (probably all of us) were scared/nervous/worried before surgery. This is a HUGE change in your life and it deserves some serious reflection. You have great motivation - your wife and kids and your health - that motivation will keep you going. You will move past your nerves and realize that this is something ensure your future. Don't be scared or worried. Hugs, Heather

Update after surgery
Trix, congrats girl! I am glad that you are in such high spirits - and I hope it stays that way. Good luck with your weight loss - gotta love the NSV's (I am not a scale person either). :cheer2:

Adrenal Fatigue & Thyroid Problems
I am taking 125 mcg of Synthroid and can't lose weight and keep it off on my own. My Dr thinks the Sleeve will allow me to lose and maintain some sense of weight loss - how much? He has not said yet. To be honest, I would be happy with a 50 lbs loss at this point in life. I am 30 and tired of having the energy of a slug. The weight makes everything that much worse. I look to these boards for motivation and inspiration in hopes that other Hypothyroid patients are able to lose and maintain with the Sleeve - ohhh please dont let this be in vain. It is so important to pre-Sleevers and newly sleeved patients to hear the updates from Hypothyroid patients. Thanks for posting!!

vomiting blood
Hmm you have to ask this question?!?!?! Go to the hospital hun. Please.
-
glorious overweight!
Congrats!!! :cheer2:
-
Did you have to have at least a 50 BMI for VSG?
Nope -> 40 and no co-mo's!!
-
How likely am I to be considered for VSG?
Sounds like you fit the bill! Good luck!!
-
Insurance Question
They will bill to the primary insurance (BCBS) and then to Medicaid. However, if Medicaid does not cover the VSG, you will get a bill based on the BCBS out of pocket max. They will figure up how much you paid toward your out of pocket max / deductable and bill for the rest. If Medicaid will cover VSG, they will bill secondary to Medicaid for whatever amount BCBS did not cover. Basically, Medicaid could pick up what you would be left to pay out of pocket for BCBS. Good luck!
