Maintence Weight Calories
I lost eating 1000 calories for 2 years. Now I am not tracking because I am maintaining so I focus on portions more than calories...however after doing it for 2 years I tend to have a running total for the day in my head and it's about 1500.

Hesitance for first fill!
The band was made to work with a fill. Think how well you would be losing if you didn't have to be worried about looking to snack between meals. There is nothing to be scared about.... You want the band to function at its optimum level. Best wishes !

I need help..
3 oz of meat is about the size of your palm. 1/2 small baked potato is about 1/4 c... 1/3 of a larger one.... Veggies...4 tablespoons is about right.

I need help..
Popcorn and veggies measure fine in a measuring cup. Sandwhiches I would do individually... 1 slice of wheat bread equals 50 calories about I serving of starch which is about 1/4 cp. then I would weigh the meat and whatever else.

Family
I didn't make a big deal out of it. First hubby and I discussed and I decided. Then I matter of factly told people as the need/situation arose. I didn't tell people in a formal announcement.

5 Months Out & No Real Weight Loss-Is This Normal?
Well with proper restriction that should be the case... so you must not be there yet.. I would certainly follow up with the Dr on that. An average day would be as follows. Keep in mind its 1000- calories.... and I didnt spend any on drinks so didnt list it. BFast 1 egg 1 pc whole wheat toast / marg / SF jelly 1/2 slice bacon lunch 3 oz tuna mixed with fat dree dressing 6 wheat thins 1/2 c veggie or salad Snack 1/2 banana dinner 3 oz fish, chix, beef, pork 1/2 c veggies 1/4 c starch like 1/2 baked potato, Pasta, rice etc Evening Snack if needed sugar free skinny cow bar or fruit

5 Months Out & No Real Weight Loss-Is This Normal?
Thats not the way the band works. With the band its a tool to use to help you feel satisfied on a small portion....usually about 1 cup of healthy food. Until you have restriction you must be very strict with yourself and count calories and track your food and measure portions. If you continue to eat like you did before you were banded you wont lose weight. I am sorry your Dr is not providing this information. Have you discussed it with him? At four months out I had seen my Dr monthly and was at restriction. I had lost a lot of weight. But its not because I was in the green zone... its because I made sure to eat a reduced calorie diet of 1000 calories each and every day. Its shear willpower until you hit that restriction so if you dont have I would visit the dr again soon to get there. Best of luck!

Does anyone else worry they will fail with the band?
It is. Also I can say having been on numerous diets.... when you stop pick a name diet... you revert back to bad habits. With the band... when I stopped my losing stage... I didnt change my eating. Just maybe a few things here and there but my band governed my ability to over eat. And I knew that going back to fast food and high calorie things wouldnt agree with me so I just do not eat them. Thats why I beleive the weight will stay off this time.

Did you have a calorie limit for the pre-op diet?
I was on 5 Optifast shakes and all the water I could drink. I could also have tea, coffee and 2 sugar free popsicles.... so I guess that would have been 850 calories. I lostt 22 lbs.

Which foods to avoid for new bands
Popcorn is funny.... for me it goes down fine but I spend the next hour bringing up the skins of the kernels... But I eat it alot... Not the kind in the movie theatre... the 100 calorie bags from the store.

20 pounds down... and nervous
If you continue to eat less calories than you burn you will lose more weight and never have a gain. For me I found tracking my calories once I started on mushies helped me keep it in line. Best wishes!
