The year following my surgery.
Really, aftercare with the sleeve is minimal. Look at all of us who went to Mexico. I have not been back to see my surgeon once. My regular doctor does my labs. There is a bariatric surgeon here, but I have no need to see him. Just follow your post op diet to the letter and there is little chance you will have complications. I am sorry your doctor was a butt head. I never even used any pain medication.I didn't have any pain.

Normal to be able to drink a lot 5 days out?
Like I said, consider yourself lucky. So many people get weak and dehydrated because they have so much trouble drinking. I was lucky too, and had no trouble getting all my protein and fluids in. I loved my protein drinks and I think it's great that you're doing so well!

Normal to be able to drink a lot 5 days out?
I was able to drink as much as I wanted right from the start too. You need to protect the staple line and that's why they say to sip only a few ounces every 15 min.You don't want any pressure against the staple line. Just consider yourself to be one of the lucky ones. Some people get very nauseous the first few weeks. Just drink however slowly your surgeon instructed you do drink, even if you feel like you can drink a lot faster than you were told.

Myoplex/Protein bars
The best thing to do is call your doctor and ask. If he gives the okay, take a tiny bite and see how you do. You may get very full really quickly this soon post op, so take it slowly. You may not be able to eat the whole thing. If you do, you may experience what we call the foamies. I would just try a quarter of it to start out.

Slider Foods?
chips chew down to practically nothing so they go down easy. When eating meat, you need to cut it up very tiny and chew it up until it's like a paste in your mouth. Slider foods are foods that are soft and soupy and don't stay in the stomach very long. Cottage cheese can be a slider food, so is Soup, and yogurt.

Set for Friday....really scared!!!
I wish I had the sleeve surgery fisrt too. I did lose weight with the band, but there were so many foods that were not band friendly, so no wonder I lost weight. I love that with the sleeve I can eat anything I want. When I started throwing up in my sleep, I knew it was time to get that stinkin band out of me!

What is everyone's exercise routine? New and long timers
I got the gym habit way before wls. I do a group power class 2 days a week which is a group weight lifting class. I do weight training two days a week on my own. I definitely think this is the reason I don't have much loose skin. I had a lot of muscle before I had wls. I also do cardio 6 days a week and Zumba at least twice a week.

Chronic Constipation
It was a problem for me before I had gall bladder surgery. Having the gall bladder out seems to cause diarrhea. Now I am on Iron, so I am wondering if it will come back. I bought some fiber one Cereal today to add to my yogurt cause I have a feeling the iron is going to block me up. Miralax is great and so is benefiber.

Protein Ideas......
I used GNC's brand of unflavored protein powder and put it in everything until I used it all up.
-
OMG I am ACTUALLY drinking a protein shake!
using soy milk is a good idea because a lot of people who are sleeved get diarrhea from milk. soy Slender has way less calories than any other brand of soy milk.

mexican chicken and black beans
I don't see why you couldn't just leave the corn out. I also don't see why you could not use taco or enchilada sauce. It just wouldn't be as chunky as salsa.

Nexium, Prevacid, Prilosec, other? Are you taking anything post-surgery?
I take the generic of Protonix. It's a tiny little pill. I have tried to go off of it and it's no fun.I was on it before surgery, so I see no reason to go off of it now. My co-pay for all generic medications is $10. My pcp prescribes it to take twice a day, but I only take it once a day, so I get 60 for $10.

Maintenance advice/suggestions/issues
Those all sound like good choices tiff. I think eating slider foods that don't make you feel stuffed would be a good idea. No sugar added applesauce, cottage cheese,(if you can stand it, I can't ) things that really don't fill you up. I know it's a balancing act. I know a lot of people really think this is a great problem to have, but since you want to get pregnant, you need to do what is best for you.

Maintenance advice/suggestions/issues

My dr. tried me on remeron both for sleep and for depression, and the carb cravings were terrible! My dad's dr. gave him Remeron to increase his appetite when he lost his appetite at 90.

Confession Time
Healthy carbs and healthy fats like nuts really do seem to be the answer.

still not convinced with the sleeve .. am confused
There are so many of us that traveled out of the country to Dr. Aceves in Mexicali Mexico. There is not one person that wasn't thrilled with him, the hospital and all the staff.

Confession Time
Tiffy you're just going to have to remember to eat some healthy snacks. Weren't there some protein bars that you liked? How about a few crackers with peanut butter? You don't have to gag down protein shakes that you hate when there is good food out there! My guilty pleasure is pistachio nuts. I also love those 100 calorie packs of cocoa dusted almonds.
