    Gastric bypass RNY 7/24/23

    I spoke to my nutritionist and I’ve never been so wrong. Omg. I’m focusing on protein which is right. But I wasn’t paying attention to the carb and fat content on items. 20 carbs or less. 10 grams of fat, sugar or less. And they would like 10 grams or more of protein per meal/product. And I’ve gone over the recommended amount of protein once which according to the nutritionist means I’m grazing 🥹 My grazing is work related because I can’t really sit still so I take a few bites and before I know it’s been two hours of taking a few bites. I was told to remind myself to be selfish. I was also told I need a half a cup of vegetables with my 30 minute meal. This is overwhelming for me friends. I’m struggling with the getting enough protein in during every meal already. Now I have to include veggies. Take calcium chews and watch out for too much carb fat and sugar. Ever since the last appointment Im only at 30 grams of protein a day. I am completely thrown for a loop.

    2nd Week Liquid Post Op Uninterested

    I found the answer to my delima above. Getting Through The Liquid Phase I purchased these creamed soups: Cream of Bacon Cream of Broccoli Cream of Asparagus Cream of Potato I already had: Cream of Chicken, Cellery, Onion, & Mushroom How I prepared: Cream of Potato 2.5 Servings per container/Serving size 1/2 cup = 4oz 90 cal/serv = 225 total 2g protein/serv = 3g total -Put soup in sauce pan -Add 1 cup (8oz) Fairlife Fat Free (13 g protein) & simmer while stirring NOTE: I added spices - Cayenne Pepper, White Pepper, Dried Herbs (any spice you like) -Pour contents into blender & blend until smooth -Add soup to larger container if needed -Add 1 Scoop Unjury Chicken Flavor Protein Powder (20g protein) & stir/mix -Add chicken broth to thin out the soup to desired consistency -Measure out your serving & enjoy throughout the day I will do this for all the creamed soups as they all will have different flavors. Now I can make it through another week and will put these in rotation later! I also forgot I ordered Millie's Broths from their website and had to grab those from my mailbox today. I am including the image.

    Hi All, Just posting here hoping for some ideas, I am currently training for a marathon/half marathon and my long runs have reached 2 hours. This means I have started to need to eat mid-run. Luckily I don't suffer too badly with nausea my issue is dumping. Normal times I don't suffer too badly with dumping but when running I think the movement pushing things through my system that bit faster and refined carbs make me feel awful! like really really bad, worst dumping of my life. It passes but it's hardly helpful. This rules out all the off-the-shelf running supplies/typical refined sugar-heavy suggestions. I have tried sweets, bread, ect but have the same issue unless I stick to more "wholefood" options. My only success has been sultanas paired with cheese, but the cheese made me feel nauseous, but the fat and extra bulk did prevent dumping. So I need something high in carbs, but also a decent amount of protein/fat, which is easy/at least possible to eat while running and will survive in a plastic bag at room temp. I don't care if it's processed or not, I am happy to cook/bake, but as I need to use it once a week would prefer it not to be too much of a hassle. I really need to start refueling mid-run so any ideas are very welcome!

    New to this and facing anger

    Hi! I'm new here. I went through about six months of the process for WLS about four or five years ago, but I didn't lose weight during the six-month pre-op phase, so things stopped. I had also been running across many horror stories (mostly on social media), which made me think that maybe it was for the best, anyway. Well, five years later, I weigh no less than I did back then. I have a huge list of co-morbidities, some of which are related to weight, some I had prior to my weight gain, and a couple that cause weight gain. I'm on over ten meds a day, and I'm only 42 (well, 43 in a few days). I feel like I'm falling apart. I think the last straw was that my oldest son got married in June. I saw myself in the wedding photos. I ruminated on that for a few weeks, and then woke up one morning and decided I was sick of obesity and everything that goes along with it. So, I asked my PCP for the referral, and I have my first appointment in September. Because I did six months of their program and because I read their patient handbook, I have a better idea of what is expected of me than I might otherwise. But I'm angry. I'm angry that I'm going to have to give up my favorite foods or accept sugar-free versions (and I can't stand artificial sweeteners; I'm actually really worried about it because most protein drinks/powders seem to rely on them). I'm angry that I won't be able to eat like everyone else. I'm angry that I'll have to go through so much physically. I'm angry that I have to lose weight to have surgery to help me lose weight that I need because I can't lose weight on my own. And I'm angry that it's such a long process. If I have to do it, tell me what to do, let me sulk over it for a few days, and then let's just do it. I know that's not how it works, and I don't know why I'm so angry. I have no one to blame but myself for being in this mess. I made a list of positives that could come from the surgery, and I got a full two pages. So I shouldn't be angry. And I realize my reaction shows that I have inappropriate attitudes toward food. I've discussed it with my therapist, and we're going to work on it, but I guess I was wondering if anyone else dealt with this and what helped them get past it. TIA!

    @RTL1234 Hey there! Surgery went well per surgeon. Swelling is a lot! I look like I'm in my 2nd trimester! 😕 Thankfully they gave me an abdomen band that helps stabalize me while up and walking which helps tremendously. My weight day of surgery went from 195 to 202 due to fluid/swelling etc. I pray it starts to subside soon.

    Could it be an anchor stitch that surgeons put in to keep everything in place? Hope the surgeon can get back to your before the weekend.

    September 2023 Surgery buddies

    Scheduled for a DS on September 11. Counting down the days and running through the gambit of emotions. I didn't come into my surgery prep thinking that I'd be getting a WLS from the surgeon in an effort to fix a failing nissen fundoplication (GERD surgery, 2005). He just told me at the first appointment that it was my only real viable option for a repair and return to somewhat normal function. I'm eating reasonably now, I just have to remember to eat breakfast, which I usually don't but I've been trying to divide up my calories more thru the day instead of them all at the end of the day. I usually don't eat during work hours. Making sure I'm drinking plenty of no-calorie fluids and my care team recommends Liquid IV, so I've been making sure to drink at least one a day, although when I start my 2-week pre-op diet it'll go up to two each day. I think I'm ready, not 100%, still scared witless that I'm going to regret it but at the same time I know I can do this and that this is going to be my best shot at being able to enjoy life again.

    before surgery, I mostly did water aerobics and "rode" the stationary bikes at my gym. Two hundred pounds later, I still do those, but i also bike a lot, too, now - in fact, I bike four or five days a week except in the winter. I also do Zumba occasionally. exercise isn't going to have much effect on your loose skin. You may get some more muscle definition if you do some strength training, but if you've got a lot of loose skin, it's not going to look A LOT better, even with that.

    I take a multivitamin and calcium regularly (not everyday if I am being honest because sometimes I forget) I add everything else periodically because I can usually feel when I need something like more b12/iron/Vit D. They are either small tablets or some version of a chewable. My plan didn’t require that I stay away from bread products and I despise soft breads so I didn’t have an issue tolerating the types I liked. Since your plan does ask for you to avoid it, I would. I still don’t chew gum, eat popcorn or drink carbonated beverages because those were in my original instructions 6 yrs ago. Abstaining for now won’t hurt you. Revisit the conversation with your surgeon at your 6 month follow up. Congrats on the revision

    Hot sauce junkies.

    I would wait until you're fully healed as those hot sauces cause ulcers. Last thing you want is ulcers in your new tiny belly. I have always loved and tolerated all levels of heat, post surgery my belly is much more sensitive
