    Pouch blockage?

I am almost 6 years out and doing well. Except, suddenly I am not able to eat. I spent the other night with such pain after eating that I couldn't sleep and considered a trip to the ER. I could actually feel a mass in my upper left side. The mass has gone away, but now I can't even have liquid without pain. I just switched jobs and my insurance is not in place yet. I talked with the surgeons office yesterday and they gave me the spiel about chewing and no carbs, (which I don't eat because of reactive hypoglycemia) I do have an appointment with them today, but am worried about the finance part as well. Has anyone else had a stricture or blockage in the pouch? If so what did it feel like? Thanks! Lynda

    Pouch blockage?

The Nurse ordered me in for a STAT CT for today and then told me to stay in town for results, but I can't get in anywhere until Tuesday Morning. She told me I should do a liquid diet but to add in cottage cheese and other soft foods. I wonder if she even heard me that it hurts when I eat? She mentioned a hernia or a bowel twist as a possibility but then told me to eat a soft diet and take laxatives. I am not constipated! UGH

    It stops sucking…. Right?

It does get better! You just had MAJOR surgery and your stomach tissues are massively swollen right now. I know it's scary ATM, but just follow your post-op instructions and make sure to drink, drink, drink. Dehydration is a big risk early on after surgery, so even though it sucks, keep sipping! I suspect your hunger feelings are probably a combination of things such as not eating any real food for a while, as well as your body trying to let you know that it's not happy with the current situation. That too will get better over time as things start to normalize and you're able to eat more.

How disappointing! I was hoping this would work because I was thinking about trying it!

    It stops sucking…. Right?

yea I had buyer's remorse the first couple of weeks - but that ended quickly. I had my 10 years ago and it was the best decision I've ever made.

It does stop sucking. The post op stuff is a beast.....a couple weeks removed from that and most everyone feels much better. First couple of days I distinctly remember the gasses causing some serious shoulder pains and other discomfort.

    Stomach pain

I get horrible pain from eggs, anything with heavy cream and ANYTHING that I reheat in the microwave. That is the worst I can only reheat foods on the stove or in the oven. Anything in the microwave is like knives in my stomach. Keep record of what you are eating and how you are heating it. I spoke to the doctor and they said there are a lot of instances where people using the microwave have the pain. Hope you are feeling better.

If you want to try collagen supplementation, you certainly can, though the scientific evidence is a bit of a mixed bag. Some studies seem to show benefit, but I think we have to keep in mind this condition is also a temporary issue brought on by the stress and dietary deficiencies you went through. In short, it's going to resolve by itself over time and thus it's really hard to know if the collagen is actually doing anything. IMO, the best possible thing you can do for your health, for your hair loss, as well as to speed your weight loss would be to really double down on dietary protein intake and not supplements. For those about to jump in and mention that collagen IS protein, yes that's true, but it does not contain all the essential amino acids. As such, you really should not count it toward your daily protein intake. Plus, a capsule isn't going to contain very much protein anyway. I'd guess less than a gram per capsule, though I suspect it might vary based on the source and size of the capsule itself.
