    May Surgeries - check in!

Hi, just joined this app/forum. My surgery is scheduled for tomorrow (5/3/21) after being cancelled in Dec because of COVID. Starting to be nervous now that the day is finally here, but some of your posts have helped.

    Sleeve with Fatty Liver

Preop diet will shrink it. Not worth worrying about. The best advice anyone can give, is to just do exactly what your surgery team tells you to do.

    May Surgery?!

Hi. I’m new to this app/forum. I’m having a gastric sleeve tomorrow (May 3) in Syracuse, NY. I was originally scheduled in Dec, but COVID stopped that. Now that the day is really here I’m starting to get nervous about it. The only ones I have told are my 2 kids, my sister, 2 close friends at work & of course my boss.

I wouldn't have been allowed to progress that fast, but if your plan allows it, then who am I to say? Be careful, though. It takes real commitment to get to your goal, and a lot of people never make it. I would stick to my clinic's plan as closely as possible. The first few weeks and months are the easiest times to lose weight - it gets progressively harder the further out you get. Don't blow your big chance. There will be plenty of time to enjoy your favorite foods (in moderation, of course) later.

    Having a hard day today...

Hiya! I felt the same way right after my surgery. Your hormones are changing a lot and definitely creates emotions you would normally be able to control. It doesn’t last too long so don’t worry. The first couple of months are hard to get used to but it definitely eases once you enter your third month. You made a huge decision and there will be an adjustment period. Don’t worry too much, you’ve got this! and it’s wonderful that your wife is so supportive. Having someone to help you during this time, especially when feeling fragile, is a gift. It’ll get better!

Anyone here who had surgery in their 60's?

I turned a blessed 69 yesterday! I had my VSG last August. My fears of being too old were unfounded. All of my numbers have improved and I'm thrilled. The hardest part has been eliminating my junk food snacking habit. It has been easier to control in the past few weeks. Dropping the crap has been the key to my success. How are you all doing it?

    Surgery yesterday- my experience

I had a sleeve done yesterday, late morning, and I am about 24 hrs out. My doc put me on gabapentin the day prior, and I had some dilautid in recovery. SO much LESS pain than I anticipated. I was about to drink water and broth all afternoon and night with minimal discomfort. Walked twice up and down the halls... today am feeling well enough to get out of bed alone use the bathroom and walk without assistance. Had a tiny (1/2) dose of some narcotic overnight, more as a precaution, otherwise have been comfortable with Tylenol and torodol. Good luck to all the upcoming surgeries! Weight loss after VSG to RNY Revision?

@scoutmom... hi we are very similar. I had the sleeve in 2015. I had also gained back 40lbs because I had such bad GERD which turned to Barrett’s Esophagus and all I wanted to eat was comforting carbs. So I just had revision surgery 8 weeks ago to the bypass. I have lost 29lbs so far. The eating seems easier than after the sleeve, I’m progressing really well, even eating chicken. I don’t have that hard stop that I had with the sleeve so I weigh and measure everything. I did get thrush after surgery which was something I was told was common after that surgery, so be aware of that. I can drink very well, unless I gulp too fast or too much. You’re going to do great and I’m sure you may be nervous but all will go well. I’ll keep you in my thoughts and prayers for a successful surgery and a quick recovery. Good luck!!
