I do still weigh/measure and track at almost five years out because I've learned if I stop doing it for more than a few days, my weight starts heading north. But that's me - you may be different. My dietitian also recommended I stop doing it, but I know myself too well.... also, I'm not trying to be rude or anything, but losing nine lbs in a month isn't realistic if you're anywhere near your goal weight (or even within 20 or 30 lbs of it). It would take me three or four months to do that - at minimum - unless I was practically starving myself. Even if I'm being really careful with my food intake and exercising, I can only lose about 0.5 - 1 lb a week... So different from when I was morbidly obese!

My program only requires "soft foods" two days before, and clear liquids the day before, but I have been doing 2 protein shakes a day and one meal on my own. I have my pre-op appointment on Monday! It's crazy how fast it is all going now. I have figured out my vitamin regimen (2 Bariatric Advantage Chewable Advanved Multi EA and 3 Bariatric Adv Calcium Chews), and finally found a plant based protein I don't hate (purely inspired Organic Protein). I am intolerant to whey, so the majority of the regular ones are out for me. And there are soooooo many disgusting plant based ones. I have also checked in with all of my favorite coaches with at my gym to make sure they are cool with me not following the daily format so I am good to go there too! I don't want to lose my gym habits. It's too easy to fall back into not going, lol. I am an OrangeTheory addict.

I’m a type 1 diabetic. I am scheduled to have my surgery done on the 13th of this month. I am having the gastric bypass done with Dr Lytle in Atlanta. My CW is 228 and I’m doing this for the benefit of reducing my insulin intake and losing this unwanted weight. Does anyone have any insight for me? Did this actually reduce your insulin intake? Also I’m on the minimed 670g system. Should help prevent them from needing to check my sugar at weird times of the night. Thanks in advance!!

Day 5 of liquid diet here, on Sunday I switch to all clear liquids. Went for pre-op testing yesterday, just waiting for the call today to see what time I go in on March 2. This is getting real! Excited but also apprehensive. Anybody else???

    February Surgery ?

@smund - so sorry to hear about your struggles. Things will get better. I hope they can repair your teeth easily. I didn’t even know it was a possibility until the surgeon told me about 20 minutes before surgery.

    Question about tracking

I count them toward my fluid intake, too. The only thing I don't count is caffeinated coffee.

    I cheated...

Sounds like you are in a good place, Tom. Just use it as a learning experience that you don't have to repeat now. Cheating a little bit isn't a deal breaker; only a reminder that we're all human. Keep on the plan, track everything, and you'll soon see little successes. Best of luck!

elcee, Your experience with the band is very similar to mine. You said it way better than I ever could! Great advice for anyone still looking at the band!

    So many questions

I started taking vitamins during my six-month supervised diet since my dietitian wanted me to get used to taking them (but I think it was just the multi she had me taking, now that I think of it...), but most surgeons, regardless of the surgery, will have you stop taking vitamins and any non-prescription meds a week or two before surgery. I had to stop taking them before both of my plastic surgery procedures, too - evidently some can thin the blood too much, which can interfere with the surgery. as for your anxiety meds (or any other prescription med), ask your doctor.
