I'm just over a week out of surgery. I work in an office building of about 1000 people administering health benefits. It is literally the battle of food cultures everywhere in this building. It's Cinco de Mayo and also Asian Heritage day. Everywhere you turn there's free tacos (good ones, I'm in central CA) ceviche, elotes, rice and beans. There's a massive BBQ cooking asada. Then there is every Asian food known to man. Two weeks ago I could have done some serious damage to these endless buffets. But I've got my beef broth to keep me company.

    Didn't Work for Me

Got the balloon in Dec. 2017 and had it removed in June 2018. I thought that if I cold drop 30 or so pounds then I could get more active and keep it off... WRONG! Lost 28 pounds and all was good for a few months but then the weight started to slowly come back. I think if you're really well educated on your new diet and you can stick with it, you might have better results than I did. Next week I'm having gastric sleeve surgery. I spent $6,000 for the balloon and now $16,000 for the sleeve.

I've had to stop the comparison thing because I can't compete and it just makes me feel bad. I can only keep doing my best and keep doing what I'm doing and eventually that stupid scale is going to move downward some more.

Are you on any meds for diabetes or high blood pressure? Dosages might need to be adjusted. I'm on day 2 of the all liquid diet too, and am a bit loopy... felt like my blood sugars were low while I was grocery shopping (a new kind of torture). Checked my sugars when I got home, and they were actually high. Turns out that my once-a-week coffee from McDonald's had 2 sugar in it rather than 2 sweetener. [emoji35] Now I'm just praying it levels out soon because I feel like crap. Sent from my SM-G960W using BariatricPal mobile app

    Considering Surgery

About 6 years ago I lost 100 lbs w/out surgery after being diagnosed with fatty liver (my insurance at the time wouldn’t cover wls). Of course most of that weight gradually came back. A new career meant new insurance, and this time WLS was covered. I started consults the week my insurance became effective.

Ask if your local bariatric surgeon has an information seminar. Your surgeon may recommend a procedure. Here is a link that may help in your research phase. https://www.obesitycoverage.com/the-complete-patients-guide-to-bariatric-surgery/ Age 45 and 254 pounds, My wake-up call was being admitted to ICU. My internal organs shutting down from diabetic ketoacidosis. My heart stopped, and they brought me back. I wish it didn’t take that moment to understand my weight was slowly killing me. I looked at how many times I’ve lost weight then had regain with extra. I needed a long-term solution to get my health back. I was sleeved in 2014. Five years out, no complications, no regret, and maintaining in the 130’s.

For me, it was anxiety about leaving my husband with two small kids if I were to have a heart attack. Rather dramatic, I know, but it was ultimately what pushed me over the edge to ask for the referral.
