    6 days post op gurgle

Your stomach is so swollen that the liquid is trying to find a path through. What you hear is it dribbling through the tiny openings left between the swollen parts. It gets much quieter as you heal.

    Emotional first ‘stall’

Tomorrow will be five weeks post op and tomorrow will also be my husband’s 9th angel day. He was 40 when he passed away. We had just had our third daughter, who was 3 weeks old. It’s the first time I’ve mourned his death with no comfort food, and I believe it’ll be my first weigh in where I haven’t lost a single ounce. I knew that I gained my weight due to my loss and my new found habit of emotional eating, but I guess I didn’t realize how the true emotions must have been masked with food as I seem to be more grief struck than I have been in quite sometime. I seem to be constipated with the increase of protein. I noticed I seem to be grazing higher fat foods the past few days and am pissed at myself for not stopping this behavior sooner! I’m scared this means I’m going to fail. I want to pick myself up, shake off, and kick tomorrow in the teeth! I guess I just needed to vent 🤮 #wordvomit

    6 days post op gurgle

Well,I am a bypass, don't think we gurgle as much, I could be wrong, I am only A week, out and just got, promoted to Stage 3 ( Hurray for Me) . What I got and I think it's equally weird, I was told since I was doing well , I was longer bound to an ounce a time on fluids, first time I tried 2 ounces I got,a swoosh, rather felt like the vacuum sounded when it picked up one of the cats soft play balls. So I guess,my stoma is patent like it should be, but it sure felt FUNNY

This reminds me of going to Canada and seeing all the "A fed bear is a dead bear" signs. Well, I never saw a single bear, but the mosquitos nearly ate me alive! 😨 Where were all the 'Beware the mosquito" signs? Similarly, the surgery seems like the painful part, but it's not really. The sign should read "Beware the wind and constipation!" And even that wears off after a bit. ☺ Keep your chin up. After a bit of a struggle, you'll give birth to a beautiful baby new you - totally worth it!

    Over eating

Seems carb heavy. Fruit or raisins for a snack would just make me want more carbs. Crackers and cheese for lunch, well there are just better options. Stick to the basics. Proteins like chicken, fish, lean meat. Eat it on some salad if you like. Carrot stuffing, potatoes, etc.....carb, carb, carb. It is just my opinion but I’d back down the carbs while you are still so soon out from surgery. You don’t need potatoes, or stuffing. You need protein, and non starchy veggies, maybe a few berries if room. Why not some Greek yogurt for a snack?

    Dieting While Diabetic

X-man I had the sleeve on July 16. I've had no pain, no nausea from the surgery. I'm 69 and have diabetes. I was on insulin at 180units/day. I had 1 unit of insulin while I was in the hospital. I have not had ANY insulin since. I still take metformin same as before. The day I came home I called my endocrinologist to update him. That was Tuesday 7/17. On Friday I saw my primary and again the next week. My primary is keeping me under close supervision because they expect I will be needing meds reduced. Getting the sleeve is the best thing I could possibly due to improve my health. The worst thing about the process for me was having to grind up pills. Yuck! I bought a bottle of pill glide from pharmacy. It help a little. What really helped was taking the powdered pills in SF pudding. I'm down 75 pounds from my highest weight. While in surgery I had so much IV fluid that I gained 6# and kept that 6# for about 2 weeks. I was eating/drinking about 400 calories/day! That 6# was really getting under my skin! It finally left. Then I started dropping at least 1# a day. My friends tell me that they never saw me smile so much. And they keep telling me that. I have a new lease on life..

    Food is everything

Food is everything, everywhere, imbedded in every aspect of our lives. Today, like many many days, my boss came up to me and asked "would you like ice cream from Mc Donalds?" and naturally it is for a "reward" of sorts for good performance for the day. I looked at him and said "you know my answer" in a playful way. It's crazy how food is our natural go-to for reward. I yelled out of my office to my friend across the way, "I am one STRONG lady!" because it's true. These last 5 months, I have withstood so many potlucks, ice cream socials, food truck days, donut or bagel breakfast, boxes of dilly bars, I COULD GO ON AND ON! A part of me feels defeated, the reason why? Why couldn't I lose the weight differently and still be able to partake in some of these things in moderation? I know the answer why.... I would never have done it. I need the dumping syndrome to prevent me from partaking. This surgery FORCED my hand. The other part of me feels accomplished, strong, and amazing. I have powered through every hard moment, Candy on Valentines day, birthday party cupcakes, s'mores at cook outs, frozen margaritas at the health club pool, bread at the restaurant, baked goods at Easter, ice cream on a hot summer day,....... I have said NO to everything. I have been strong and it has paid off.
