    Protein Shakes

You can absolutely mix and match your protein powders... I do that all the time for various reasons. Most pre-ops folks have issues with the lack of sugars / taste of fake sweeteners. Post op you might find that much different. I've enjoyed Muscle Milk's products as well as Isopure and Gold Standard. Right now I've got Synthia-6, 2 things of Isopure and 1 Gold Standard Casein (slow acting protein used for overnight muscle support).

Your last sentence just answered your Q in my thinking. Make the 2hr trip for almost guaranteed clearance, or risk denial going somewhere else?

    Kidney stones?

So I spent last night in the local ER in excruciating pain from a kidney stone - my very first! My surgical team tells me that, low and. Broke, this is “very common” after WLS, including VSG. Any experience with this out there? Any advice on prevention (other than hydration)?

    Rage

Could be hormonal flux, hanger, mild dehydration (don't count this out) vitamin & mineral imbalance, medication interactions, Sexual frustration, etc. or everyone you know finally deserves a piece of your mind (boldness) Speak with your team, they may have resources to help you before you burn all of your bridges. Total cost was about $12,500. My stress test was covered by insurance, I just had a $10 copay. My psych evaluation was $150. The nutrition seminar was $30.

I am just starting my journey and was wondering for those of you who were self pay how long did it take you to have surgery after your initial consultation? My BMI is 40, but I don't have a cormorbidity. Thanks in advance.

    First step in the process

I was also VERY overwhelmed after my first visit. My surgeons office gave me a list of the things I needed to do - Psych consult, gastro clearance (with endoscopy), pulmonologist (which included chest xray and sleep study), and cardio consult (only EKG needed), as well as 2 months of nutrition visits. The coordinators only scheduled nutrition visits and the rest was up to me. My advice would be to get a calender book/agenda (or print out calender pages) and plan out your visits for the docs. That helped me visualize how much time I needed to complete things. Also - schedule in advance...even if you can't get your cardiac clearance until closer to the surgery - still get on their schedule as soon as possible. I had a cardiologist in my last 3 weeks to surgery tell me he "just didn't have any time to complete my necessary testing" - of course this was after he took my copay. Thankfully found a new cardiologist and was back on my way. Anyway, have a backup plan for docs if you don't already have a regular cardio/pulmonolist/gastro doc. And lastly be patient with yourself. Over the 6 months you will learn A LOT. It's a process but it's all about changing for the better.
