    The Shame of WLS

Back when my sister had her RNY 17 years ago, I remember thinking she will never have to diet again and that I should gain 60lbs so I could qualify. Then I watched her struggle post surgery (it was an open surgery back then) and then slowly gain weight back and having to go back to weight watchers. I quickly learned this was only a tool and would only work if you helped it work. Before then I do believe I thought it was the easy way out. As this surgery becomes more common I think people will end up knowing someone who had it and come to realize that while it helps, it's not the easy way out. I've only told a few people I've had it. It's not because I'm ashamed, it's because I don't want the added pressure of people looking at me to see if I've lost weight or in some cases flat out asking me. I'm a sloooow loser and am trying to deal with that on my own. I don't want or need judging eyes on me.

    Surgery done June 21st.

Not at all what I expected, little discomfort but nothing I can't handle. I really wish I would of done it a long time ago. Sent from my N9519 using BariatricPal mobile app

    Water intake!

I had the sleeve done 4 days ago and surprisingly I can go all day sipping water and my stomach agrees just fine. But I'm still constantly thirsty!! It's not just like a lil thirst it's like a "been walking in the desert for 24 hours and haven't found any water yet" thirst. Does anyone know what I can do?

    Liquid Diet starts today!

Day 1 I was fine. But day 2 & 3 I had mental hunger. I talked myself out of eating fish both nights. I figured if I was going to eat something I would be protein and good for me. Never ate it though and I'm so glad. I had to stay away from the kitchen those evenings. Now I'm on day 7 and I have yet to even start drinking my shakes today. I am drinking so much tap water, I'm not hungry. Be strong, it will be worth it. I haven't done any SF pudding, popsicles, jello etc but all are allowed as snacks. Just shakes, protein water and water for me. You can do it but head hunger is a b*tch!!!

    Going home!

Well they are getting my discharge papers ready now, so looks like I will be going home in the next hour or so! Surgery went well and I have exceeded my liquid requirements. Still have some pain and swelling ( gas) in my stomach but that is to be expected ! I'm ready to get started on my weight loss journey[emoji3]

    1 Week to Go

I have my surgery in four days, and I'm just as nervous as you are. I've never had any major surgery before. The closest has been getting my wisdom teeth pulled out! Hope everything goes well! I'd love to hear from you after and see how it went.

    Alcohol

I'm curious about this too for New Years. I was sleeved 11/23. I know if I ask my surgeon he'll say that's too soon. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
