Where do you see yourself Long term

Wait... You'll be close to retirement at 40? Or, do you mean you are 40 now, and plan to retire at 55? Either way, wow, that's an early retirement! Good job!

At this point I would go and let them see my face while hearing my voice. They should be ashamed of themselves! I wish you all the luck in the world!

8 days post-op would have been a no-go for me. I was way too tired for much those first couple weeks. Having said that, everyone is different and heals at a different pace. I wish you the best!!

    Recovery timeline?

It depends. Do you have a high pain tolerance? I was able to quit my meds when I got home (within 36 hours) and drive. I think you will be fine at the tournament if you can sit most of the time and its not too hot. It is just really hard to say yes or no because everyone is different. I had very little pain, and since I live alone I was back doing things quickly. Everyone is different though. Just make sure you walk as much as you can as soon as you wake up from surgery, it makes everything easier.

    what was your miserable phase?

I couldn't find any soft foods I actually liked. I mostly stuck with shakes, pudding with protein powder, and tuna salad pretty much until I was back on regular food. Since it's been variations on ground poultry - in a salad, on a tortilla, Chinese style, on its own, with fat free cheese, without fat free cheese...

    Concerned

You should have been told how much is adequate per day, and per meal, and followed those instructions. Part of having 90% of the stomach removed, especially certain parts of it, is you lose the hormone that regulates satiety. So you don't get the obvious triggers from your stomach that you're hungry. That's why one sticks to a plan their nutritionist or dietitian goes over with them. Also, you do not eat until you're full. If you're full, you've had too much.

It will get a little better each day but it will not happen overnight. It took me 6 months until I reached my happy state when most of the problems seemed to melt away.
