Anyone willing to help my research?

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone

I'm getting banded next august, still waiting for insurance to kick in

but I'm looking for some volunteers to help me with my Psychology honors research project

Im completing the final year of my degree next year and I am interested in studying perceptual congruence and body image distortions in people who experience rapid weight loss and change in body size

My theory is that people who lose weight quickly are not able to cognitively process their changing body sizes and therefore they underestimate their weight loss and exaggerate their size, despite shedding the kilos

I would need around 20 individuals preferably from Victoria, that are getting banded early 2010 and who are willing to complete a face to face perceptual exercise before and after their weight loss

I would really appreciate some volunteers!

If you are interested please reply or email me (alycejo31@live.com), I am not conducting my study until next year but I would need to know if I can get participants before I start the research

Hope to meet you all soon!!

Alyce

I would have loved to help, but I got banded in June 09. Interesting tho as I am still having trouble with accepting that I am not huge anymore! I've lost 27kg and have 9 to go, but am starting to realise I am not a huge person anymore!:)

hi angela

thanks for the reply

i havent been able to find anyone yet :)

but yes that was the whole reason behind my interest in this area

a few years ago i lost 30 kgs on sureslim and i lost it really quickly, but i never accepted my new body and i became overly cocky about it

it was only until i regained all my weight back and was going through some old clothes that i finally realised how tiny i was after the weightloss

i'm sure alot of people can relate, i think with quick weightloss we dont have enough time to processes all the changes happening to our bodies so we are basically in a state of misperception until something finally triggers our realisation

it's a really interesting topic, and it will no doubt help me on my journey when i get the band in august

Hi Alyce

If you are short on guinepigs I would be more than willing to help you with your research, I Live in County Victoria and I come to Melbourne for my monthly checkin and could slot you into my day in Melbourne, the only catch is I was banded in September 09 but willing to help you out as I still have a heck of a lot of Kilo's to lose and would find your reseach interesting.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
