a few random things

1st off, I guess I need to take a pregnancy test b/c I am not officially one week late. I hope it's just my body reacting to the stress of surgery b/c me, nor my doc, would be too thrilled about getting pregnant immediatley after my band surgery.

Also, today my tummy is making all kinds of growling noises but I ate Breakfast anbd I'm not hungry. What's that about?

Lats but not least, what's the deal with salad. Some people say they can eat it, some say they can't, someone even said no raw veggies for 6 months!!! On Friday I can start eating "normal" food and of course I am craving a salad - the one thing I don't think I can have 3 weeks out! What's the consensus on salad?

Ok, I know I am annoying you all with all my posts. I feel like I chronicle my daily life on this website. But really, reading this site makes me feel good even when I hear the bad things b/c I love you guys and I feel like I can vent/rant, etc here without being judged by people who don't understand.

Hi Laura,

Vent away! That's what we're here for.

My period got all screwed up after my surgery, and I've heard a lot of people on here say the same thing. I was 3 weeks late for my first period after surgery, so hopefully no worries there for you.

Not sure what the gargling stomach is about... Maybe just the band saying hello? :(

As far as salad goes, I can eat it. Seems to be a lot like the bread thing - some people can tolerate it, some can't. I'm not sure I'd make it your first food, but like everything else it will be a trial and error thing. I remember reading that raw veggie thing too, and I wasn't told that so I don't follow it. Of course, I can see where a big raw carrot no matter how well you chew it is going to feel awful on a newly banded stomach. And i have heard that raw celery is hard to chew enough because it's so fibrous.

Good luck trying solids in a few days! If you're like me you won't be able to look at Soup for a month! :):):)

Anesthesia seems to throw off alot of people's cycles. Probably you are fine :(, but keep an eye on it.

As for salad, I was craving salad when I was where you are now. I've never had a problem with it, but I know some people who have. I guess you'll just have to try. Dunno about the raw vegetable thing, I've never heard that before..

Hey there!!! The noise coming from your stomach is probably just the food going thru the band. The same thing happened to me after my surgery. The noises were really strange and loud and seemed to be the only thing I could hear. But ya get use to it. Even still there are times when I can hear my stomach and I know I just ate. My doctor doesn't allow people to say that they are hungery because their stomachs are growling...its just digestion now. Hunger to me is a "pain" or feeling now, not a noise.

Anestesia does all sorts of funky things to your body.....soo take the preg test just to be sure, they have ones now where you dont even need to be late. If it is a concern, then get one of those tests. I think its by EPT...

Congrats on your band!!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
