I was banded 11/23. It took two days for the gas pains to get better. I do feel less sore but I still need my pain meds. My left shoulder hurts too but it get's better every day. One day at a time and we'll both be up and running before you know it.

iceprincessv8... I was banded 8 weeks ago. and the pain was awfull, I was in hospital an xtra 5 days due to too much swellen and my band not being open cause of it. I thought I was gonna die... hang in there the pain will go away, even though it feels like it never will. I doubted my choice of having the band while laying in the hospital bed, but now 8 weeks and 67 pounds later...I feel great and can do the little things like picking up things on the floor, tie my shoes without gasping for air and I can even take the dogs for a walk more than 3 houses down....hang tough and think about the end result!!

I'm another one who had a lot of pain after being banded. I stayed 1 night in the hospital and went home with two pain meds. It took me probably 5 days to not feel the intense pain. I actually didn't have any gas pain.... but I did have back pain and of course my stomach. I am two weeks post op and I'm still sore. By the end of the day I'm exhausted but it is getting better.

Take it easy and drink liquids and try to walk even if it's down the hall and back. Oh yea.. and try gas-x strips... they worked when I had occasional gas pain.

I was banned on 11.25 too.

I remember one of my nurses saying that some people feel the pain from the gas in their shoulders.

I just feel the pain in my stomach. I've done nothing but sleep for two days and I still feel the gas pain.

Today I plan on getting up and walking around. I was just too tired and sore to be walking around before today.

Like someone posted, I too was wondering if I was crazy to be doing this (because of the pain), but I'm starting to feel better today and believe it'll be worth it in the end:smile:

yea, sounds like gas pains in the shoulder. try rocking back and forth, have someone pat your back, or move your upper body around in bed. I was banded 11/23 and had some major gas pains. my theory is because i had a single incision. the gas gets trapped more. the girl next to me had traditional 5 incision and didn't have as much pain. who knows.. but i am now realizing that most of us go through the same feelings after surgery... and i feel like anesthesia plays a major role in it as well..it seemed to mess with my emotion because i also felt like "did i make the right decision?" in some ways i still feel that way.. but because i am dealing with my "head" cravings.. i am not hungry like i used to be, but i definitely miss some things right now. BUT, as i stepped on the scale and saw i was 10 lbs down... i felt great!!! but these emotional feelings i rarely read about on this forum.. or atleast i never caught a thread. all in all, i keep reminding myself of whats to come in the future...

stay positive..

I was also banded 11/25 and I hurt that day, but since then I've just felt a little sore. I was pretty active on 11/25 so I bled a little longer than I probably should have, but the next day I didn't really have a problem w/ any bleeding, like 3 little spots, but I think that was just from the steri-strip being wet and the blood transfered.

Oh and the shoulder thing, my mom said that is because of the gas they use during surgery. My left shoulder hurt during the night wednesday night, but that was it.

Sounds like alot of us had our band on around Thanksgiving. Mine band was on 11/23 as well, it is day 5 and I feel pretty good. Lots of walking helped with the gas pain in my back.

Hi Dowhat..., I'm so sorry to hear you're having a hard time. I have had 2 major, fully open surgeries this year on my right breast. And I felt HORRIBLE for a few days after. But each day does get easier. I get my band surgery on Dec. 9th. But I just wanted to say, I really think you may want to tell one or two people because you are going to need A LOT of support. Surgery is something you really need help with to recovery as easily as possible. Also to help you with emotional support too. PLEASE, reconsider and ask one or two friends to come and stay with you for a day or two. It will help to get you through a hard time.

Hugs,

Michelle

Hi Dowhat-I was just banded on 11-25 and I threw up 4 times on thursday.. it was just awful. I cried and cried and was so upset about doing the surgery. Reading some of the positive things on here helps. It seems like most of us are really emotional after and being in pain doesn't help. My shoulder has hurt and I've had headaches and I don't want to drink. Ugh... and that's all I'm supposed to do. I guess with anything in life we take it one day at a time...try to walk a little...drink a little... walk a little... everyone says it gets better.

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
