Is this right for me?

:blushing:I have been contimplating weight loss surgery for about a year now. I was set on having the gastric bypass until I heard all the horror stories of having the loose skin and having to have another expensive surgery for the removal of that skin. I was told to consider lapband because the weight loss is less dramatic. I do not have any kind of support group besides my own mother but some of you may know that hearing your mother tell you that she doesnt approve only makes matters worse.

So here I am reaching out to people I do not know, but I hope to be able to start friendships and start my own support group on here. I have my consultation with the surgeon in December and then an evaluation and they said my surgery will be in February. So I need some advice, help, or just people to talk me through this so I can better my health.

XOXOXO

Jess

I hope you after you talk to the doctor, you'll feel more at ease in making an informed decision on whether to have WLS, and which type might suit you better.

Chances are you'll have some loose skin regardless of the type of surgery you choose, but you have youth going for you, so you're skin may bounce back a little better than someone much older. Also, if you don't smoke, all the better. Genetics play a major role as well.

You might find that your surgeon's office offers a LAP-BAND®® support group. Often, you can start attending even before you're banded. In fact, the surgeon I go to makes it a requirement for all pre-banders to attend at least one meeting. However, you can always make a visit here for online support.

Good luck on making your decision. I can't express strongly enough how happy I am that I have my band. There's positive and negatives to all the surgeries, and it's a matter of finding the proper fit.

Hi Jess, you have definitely come to the right place for support. I experienced some negative reactions when I first considered surgery as well. My process took over 10 months and as the date got closer, I joined this site. I read through most of the forums and appreciated that nothing was sugar-coated. Some people's experiences have been trouble free and some have had many bumps in the road.

You know what is going to make YOU happy and healthy. You have decided on your own that you want to take charge of your life. I am 8 days post op and so grateful that this site exists. So take your time going through the thread topics. Hearing about other people's success is very encouraging. Good luck with everything and feel free to ask anyone questions. Welcome!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
