What food DOESN'T make you PB?

Hi Everyone,

I received a fill last Thursday and I think I'm definitely topped off. I definitely have restriction at 5.6cc's. :Yawn:

I did my two days of liquids/thick Soups and moved on to mushies. I now definitely notice that I can't eat certain foods. Scrambled eggs are a no go but a fried egg is ok. It doesn't matter how much I chew it. I can tolerate moist turkey, chewed well, and well cooked vegetables (I haven't tried any hard veggies yet). Pasta is a no go, and I'm not sure if ham was ok or if it was the healthy choice mac and cheese that I had with it that did me in. Turkey sausage link, again, chewed well, was fine. Very inconsistent at best.

What solid foods have you found to be the most band friendly and won't make you PB? :( Rather than trial and error I thought I would ask the pros! ;-) I know each person is different but any suggestions you all have would be appreciated. Before now I could eat just about anything in small quantities and it was ok.. now I need to be a bit more particular. :thumbup:

It depends on if I eat to fast or not or not chew it up very well. I am the same, no bread, Pasta, or potatoes....I am finally (after many months of struggling) conquered how a sit down to a meal.....slow very slowly. I eat a chicken patty every morning and just that little patty takes about an hour to eat. Just give it sometime you will figure out how your band works. When you do eat something try just eating one thing so you can identify if it works for you or not...if you eat 3 different things at a meal then you won't know which item gave you issues.

Gosh, I couldnt cope at that level of restriction! An hour to eat anything would do my head in.

I can eat pretty much anything, but some foods are harder than others - unfortunately things like a tossed salad are quite hard and I often find I put salad on my plate and then end up leaving it there. But I need to eat those foods.

I can handle bread, Pasta and potatoes just fine. Steak is hard, but I'm not much for a slab of red meat anyway.

My restriction is such that people would think I had a small appetite but I eat a very small but still normal meal.

Funny that you say that, I am not a slab of meat kind of girl either...I rather nibble on turkey or chicken. Well the hour thing is only in the mornings when I am super duper tight, usually by lunch I can eat just fine but I still have way to many problems with bread and such so I just stay away. I use a crisp bread (wasa) instead, it seems to do the trick and I get my bread cravings in order.

Ditto on the eggs! I either poach them or fry them and leave the yolk runny. Soft bread sticks 95% of the time so I just don't eat it. Pasta is okay IF I CHEW IT TO DEATH. Shredded lettuce works great but leafy stuff is risky.

That's it. Everything else goes down fine. I do occasionally eat a hot dog but I buy skinless franks anyway so no problem there.

Of Proteins, I've found a fish fillet with a little sauce to be the easiest to go down.

It seems each day I figure out something else that is a no go.. just this last week scrambled eggs joined the list... potatoes, heavy Pasta, anything that is really cheesey, bread unless very well toasted and thin, things like pie crust, lettuce that is not shredded, tortillas are death on me, rice is iffy, sometimes it works, sometimes not, so I mostly avoid it. I too am tighter in the am, I tend to drink a Protein Shake on the way to work, takes 45 minutes to get it down, then around 10 I can eat a string cheese. By lunch I can eat 1/2 cup or so, dinner a bit more maybe 3/4 cup, my hardest time is after dinner that is when I want to snack and by then I seem loose enough to be able to eat this or that... so I have to watch that. If I overeat I pb like crazy so I have to watch that too and am learning each day when to stop and listen to my stomach.

Alot of you all listed some great tips...but something that i loved to eat before banding is now hard to eat.....VEGETABLES....which ones are the least hard on the band...i love broccoli but cannot do it anymore....i need to up my veggie intake but i haven't had luck with them going down easy even when i do chew chew....can someone advise me which ones are easy on them....thanks!!

I seem to have problems with many veggies too.. I need to experiment more and expand my horizons. I just bought some acorn and butternut squash to bake. I hope they go down ok.

I feel like this last fill has put me into a new point in my lapband journey. Until this point I didn't have issues with different foods now I have to be a bit more careful. I know I will learn, it is about the journey not the destination!!:tongue2:

I struggle with fruit and nothing I do - cook it, mash it, puree it, makes it easier. An orange or a crisp apple (peeled and cut) works and banana would be OK only its like oysters to me, if I really chew it and taste it, I'll gag and vomit. Its a 2 chew max food. But stone fruit, grapes, melons like rockmelon and canteloupe, or worse, fruit salad, ugh.

PB stands for Productive Burp. If you eat too fast, don't chew enough or eat the wrong thing sometimes it comes back up, either voluntarily or unvolutarily. :wink2:

Some people never get that feeling.. for me I have to make it come up after feeling pain. It doesn't happen very often, and it is my goal to not have it happen at all eventually (after I learn more), but right now it still does.

      I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
      I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
