Vomiting after the Band-Question

Recommended Posts

I understand the PBing thing, but My question is this:

What happens if you get the flu, food poisoning, or the like?

Slippage is a bad thing I know, and vomiting effects that. Do they give you a permanent perscription for antinausea medicine?

Soon after banding, I called my pcp for an anti-nausea med just incase I did get a "bug". Ive never used it, but like the insurance in having it. :)

Just a note of experience...

during my year of being banded, I have actually vomited several times (this is grose, I know, but its life!). Not as a result from a virus, but just a here and there thing (ate something that didnt agree).

Stomach convulsing for several hours or vomiting for many days is what needs to be highly avoided.

3 weeks after being banded I got food posioning & threw up over 15 times in one day. (It was disgusting!!) I was scared to death that I was making my band slip or causing some damage. The food posioning was from a local restaurant & only lasted 24 hrs. I survived & am fine. I am now 3 months out & have had no problems.

I asked the doc that when I went in for my first meeting with him on Monday. He said that if you're feeling nauseous, go to Urgent Care or even the ER if necessary and get an anti-nausea shot...they definitely recommend going in sooner rather than trying to "tough it out" like most of us are prone to do.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
