I just have a question... how long will it hurt when you need to burp? I feel good other then the sorness in the tummy. It is just the burping thing it sure hurts I know it has to heal but was not sure how long it could take. If anyone could help me with this that would be great.

Hi there,

Congratulations on getting your band! I had mine put in August 31st, and spent four days out of work. I had a lot of burping and gas that first few days, and it didn't feel very good. It went away, though, and is no problem now. Hang in there, you can do this!

Tori, same with me! At first it almost feels like a burning pain in the esophagus! I hope it goes away soon.. :wink2:

It slowly goes away....I'm 9 days post-op and I still get pain but it's better. Try drinking something warm.

Also, hold a pillow over your tummy when you burp. It will help support the abdomen and lessen the pain somewhat.

Hi! I was banded on the 10th, and it still is really painful to burp. A little better today than it has been, but it is still something I was prepared for! I hope it passes soon, too!

When you feel the pressure of needing to burp, try leaning forward (support yourself if you need to). I wait a few seconds (sometimes a little more) and up comes the air.

It took me a few days after the surgery to figure this out, but it helped immensely in relieving the pressure and getting the gas out. The pain was horrible until I learned how to get the burps out.

When you have to burp or you feel gas, sit up and rock back and forth with a pillow pushed up against your stomach. It helps a bit. Most of all make sure that you are walking as much as you can handle because it really does help to move that gas around.

I had surgery on 10/23. It took me about a week to get rid of all of that gas and start feeling better.

By the way. CONGRATULATIONS!!!!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
