How often do you weigh yourself?

I was just wondering how often you weigh yourself? Do you do it at home or at the Dr or dietician?

I have a habit of jumping on the scales and I don't think it's a good thing!

Hey there. congrats on your banding! I weigh every day which is a really bad thing. I am almost ocd about it. The problem with weighing every day is you really don't see the big difference. I would go to the doc's for a fill thinking I hadn't lost much maybe 1/2 pound and voila I had lost 7. It is because when you weigh every day you see just a slight difference. But those little differences really add up fast! I am at goal and still am obsessed with it. On one hand though the scale stopped me from eating to much. If I got on and weighed and felt that it was up I would be extra cautious of what I ate that day. On the other hand it could cause me to feel defeated. THE SCALE IS EVIL lol. Good luck. I don't think I helped much lol.

I am addicted to my scale some times i weigh everyday some times every other. I need to learn to get on it once a week.

I weigh myself every morning, nekkid, after going to the bathroom, and before my shower. :) I've heard both sides to weighing yourself every day - some say you shouldn't, others say you should because it helps you track things better...like, if my weight goes up 2.5 pounds in a day, I can say oh, I didn't get enough Water yesterday, I need to drink more today. I don't know if it'll help you or not (it does me), but you can visit a website - www.physicsdiet.com - and create a free profile, and put your weight in every day...then once a week or once a month, you can hit the reports link and it'll show you what your average weight loss is per week - not day. I'm with Alliemorris. I weigh everyday. It can be a blessing as well as a curse. It keeps me line but at the same time it can really bum me out. I need a new obsession b/c food is no longer one.

I used to weigh myself off and on throughout the day in the beginning. That was when I was in the more rapid loss phase.

Now that I am more in maintenance mode, maybe only a couple of times a month.

I weigh daily! I know it's not good, but it helps keep me motivated whether I see loss or gain. One thing I have realized though is the number doesn't really matter as much as how your clothes fit. Although I still register a 200+ weight, I am in between a size 14/16. That's a great feeling from a size 22/24.

I weigh pretty much every morning. I went from stepping on the scale about twice a year (because I was upset at what I knew i would say) to stepping on the scale daily.

I usually wait a day or 2 to change my ticker just to make sure that pound is really gone.:thumbup:

I weigh myself every day and hate myself for doing it. The mornings that I lose a pound or 2 are great but hardly make up for the mornings that I gain a pound or two. Those days are ruined the minute I step on the scale and I am miserable.

Thankfully, there ar more losses than gains these days.

I weigh myself several times a day. My day is not ruined by going up a pound. During the day I can gain and lose three or four pounds. It helps me keep in check. If I stay too long at one level, I know I need to work on it. I have found sometimes that I will lose weight when I eat more and gain when I am eating less, which makes no sense. I am not the best at getting enough to drink. That does make a difference.

Every morning, every night, and at the gym too. I know, it's too much. But I don't think I'm obsessing... I mean, I don't get down if it's up a bit, it doesn't knock me off course or ruin my mood or anything. It's just a tool that keeps me tracking. I have many tools now, the scale is only one of them.

In my past, I have found that when I'm NOT weighing in, there is a reason - it's because I'm avoiding it, seeing the number. It's because I know the number will be going UP. So for ME, personally, avoiding it is a problem - or rather, indicative of a problem.

I also recognize that it's normal for weight to fluctuate. So, as I'm officially logging my weight loss progress, I'm always sticking with the lowest number. For example, I was 198.6 the morning of Halloween. Now, I imbibed a bit over the next few days and that number went up. But I didn't change my ticker nor did I get discouraged. I just kept on doing what I do and eventually the scale again read what I had been at. Today, I was at 198 even. If I'm up a bit tomorrow, oh well - I won't change my ticker. I just keep the lowest number I've seen and continue working to get below that. It makes my graph a nice journey downward (but in reality, it would probably be more zig-zaggy. LOL)

I am the same way.. I weight myself every morning and even at night... I do that so that I know if I am still on track. It helps me adjust my eating from day to day if I have gone up from the day before... but I don't count my home scale as my official weight, for that I go by my surgeon's scale, but theirs is close to mine, within about a lb or so... but to my advantage... LOL

I agree with what others have said. Weighing several times a day in the beginning helped to keep me on track and I did not get upset with tiny variations throughout the day. It kind of made me more conscious of my decisions.

Times when I stayed away from the scale for a few days or few weeks always included a bit of a gain during that time. It was kind of like "out of sight, out of mind" in that I was either very conscious of weight loss and choices or just kind of ignoring it and allowing the occasional bad decision to slip in.

People say weighing yourself often is a bad thing . . . in my case I really don't think it was a bad decision. To each their own, and for me, I need to weigh myself often when I am dedicated to losing.

I am definitely in the minority here. I only weigh myself at the DR's office when I get fills, every 6 weeks or so.

I also refuse fills (with the DR's approval of course) if we feel I don't need them. (yup, I know what your thinking ....weirdo) lol

I have enough restriction and have only had 3 fills so far, I am banded almost 7 mos. I prefer to take it a wee bit more slowly (yup, she's definitely a weirdo now) lol

I have gone from a size 18/20 (well the size 18 waistband was right under my bra line instead of at my waist), so I probably was closer to a size 20 if I had ever bought new clothes. But then, who buys new clothes when you fat?

I am now in a size 12 jeans and a medium shirt (though sometimes a lg, cause I'm busty).

I know this is an unorthodox way to live the band life, but is working for me. I would obsess about my wt fluctuations if I weighed myself daily. I guess I don't care as much about the actual weight loss numbers as I do about the inches lost and the smaller clothing sizes.

My friend got the surgery 2 weeks after me and has had 5 fills so far and is not doing as well. She eats anything and everything and complains she is always hungry. Everyone is different, that was the first rule of thumb I learned with the band. Initially, she was doing a wee bit better, but in the last 3 mos not so good.

So far, it is working for me and that's all that counts.

It's not a race, but a destination!

      I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

      Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
