Howdy! I have only recently tried steak after being banded (6/8/09). It was a nice little piece of filet mignon cooked medium. It was very tender and very juicy. I had no troubles with it. I also have had no troubles with eating seafood. In fact, seafood has become a big part of my post-band diet. Like those who have responded before me, if the meat/seafood is not too try, it will be kind to you and your band.

I have found out through this journey that Gummy bread, broccoli, Bagels, and donuts are NOT my friends! Except for the broccoli, I really shouldn't be eating the other foods. And once a food gets stuck, any future cravings are wiped out.

As my fills have progressed, I have found out that eating anything before 10:30am is tricky. My band is too tight to allow food to pass comfortably. I usually drink hot tea or hot coffee first thing in the morning to loosen my band and then have an Atkin's bar between 10:30 and 11:00. This works for me because I don't get hungry until mid-morning and my lunchtime is at 12:30pm.

I am not due for another fill until after the first of next year. Who knows what changes in food tolerances will happen with that fill??

THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU, for your responses. I am taking a bit of advice from all of you. As my surgery date approaches (Dec. 7) and I prepare to start my 7 day liquid diet on Nov. 30, I find myself constantly thinking "will I be able to ever eat this again", "what about this, will Thanksgiving be last time time ever tasting this food again". At my pre-op yesterday, my surgeon told me bread is a no-no... well what about turkey sandwiches? How can I go on w/o ever eating a turkey sandwich for lunch as I have done for years past until today??? (:P...:frown:). Seafood is my absolute favorite food in the world so I am so happy, I mean HAPPY HAPPY to hear so many of you have been able to tolerate it after the band. I know this will be trial and error and everyone's experience will be different, but if I have said it once, I will say it a HUNDRED times, there is nothing I HATE more than vomit (mine or anyone else's ) and there is no worse fear for me than choking (:)). I had medical issues (esophogial spasms) that caused food to constantly get stuck in my throat and I literally thought I would choke to death on several occassions, so the thought of going thru that again has me terrified. Again, I appreciate your insight and I will continue to ask questions, so please continue to respond!

I had all the thoughts you did 10 days before my surgery too!! it is completely normal. I remember eating something and thinking "It will be the last time I eat this". I found that to not really be true.

As of this last fill I am definitely tighter and have to be more particular, but for the most part I can have atleast a "taste" of everything which is fine. I no longer have the feeling to devour, so it is fine!

As most things the anticipation is so much more than the reality. I know mine was! :frown: The pre-op and post-op diet is just a memory now and I am back to eating just about everything, just very little. I am still learning what works and what doesn't but it is part of the process.

Best of luck to you and enjoy your Thanksgiving!!!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
