First Fill and it made me sick. Is this normal

Recommended Posts

I had my first fill yesterday, and I was very nervous not knowing what to expect. Doctor had trouble hitting center even though he was looking at ex ray and that made me even more nervous. This was very uncomfortable and when he final got it and I now have 5 1/2 cc.

When I left hospital I felt very queezy and I don't know if it was the stuff I had to drink 3 times while he made the adjustment. This morning my stomach was very messed up.

Has anybody else experienced this after fills or did I make myself sick from nerves?

Hi there...I was banded on September 22, 2009 and had my first fill today. I had 5 cc. So far, I haven't had the symptoms you experienced. I was asked to drink a cup of Water in the office today, and I could "feel" something different, but I sipped SUPER SLOW. My doctor filled everything in, by feeling it. No x-rays. I did a "half sit up", he put his finger on it, and then I laid back down. Did you drink your water too fast? When I got home, I went back to eating the Protein Soups from the first week of surgery. I'm going to continue with liquids...what are you eating?

I did take a couple of sips of Water, but I don't know what this liquid was I am guessing something that shows up on exrays. I heard the tech say they don't use liquid baraum anymore, but it had a bitter taste.

He inserted the needle and then the table lifted me to an upright position for me to drink and him to see it going down

I had clear liquid for 24 hours and then mushy food for 24 and then back to regular food is what he said.

Sounds like it might be the stuff you had to drink. How did you add the Weight Loss ticker to your window? I can't figure it out...

Go under caption quick links next to log out and then go to edit signature. That is where you will copy and past the link that was on the tickerfactory. I believe it was the second set of links and it just appears

I had a fill on tuesday and the white stuff they had me drink made me sick to my stomach. They told me it was barium. I had to drink quite a bit of it. My paperwork says to drink plenty of Water to flush it out of your system. I also had a belly ache most of yesterday and had to stay near the bathroom. Today, I'm feeling better.

I did'nt feel queezy after my fist fill but I did feel dizzy for the rest of the day. I asked my PCP and he suggested it may be related to the Vargus Nerve that runs the length of the body and close to the stomach. I don't know but it only lasted a few hours and hasn't happened in fills since then.

I had my first fill Monday and I am still feeling "yucky" I can't explain what it is; but I am just not quite right. Eating okay but kind of weak and dizzy. I think it may have affected the vargus nerve because I have been having a little back and shoulder pain.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
