Mushies diet?? Calorie Intake??

Recommended Posts

Hi All!

I am currently on Mushies and I recently got on the scale (silly me) and notice I gained 2 pounds! Is there a certain amount of calories I should be eating on this phase! I am surely missing the days (2 weeks ago) when I was stuffed on chicken broth and couldnt finish the whole bowl! I am starting to become a lot more hungry to the point when I wonder if my band is correct (silly I know) Im so worried I am eating too much! Should I be staying under a certain amount of calories??? I cannot gain anymore weight! Please Help!

Nope Kellee, it sounds like you are right on track. Remember, right now your doc has you still on mushies because he feels like your stomach is still healing. During this "healing" phase, first priority is getting that band healed in correctly. Weight loss during this time is frosting on the cake. The time between when can eat real food and when you get your first fill is often referred to as "bandster hell".

Well, according to the program and diet plan my group has put me on, the pureed stage should be about 600 calories, 13 grams of fat and 60 grams of Protein. Then, soft, which is about 700 calories, 18 grams of fat and 70 grams of Protein. Lifetime is then 800-1000 calories per day, 24 grams of fat, and 70-75 grams of protein per day.

Every program is different, but this is the progression they've put me on, and I've lost 13 lbs since my surgery 2 weeks ago. Some may be 'eating' a little differently right now, and I'm not saying there is a right or wrong way to do it, but I'm sticking with this since it's working for me LOL!!

i am on mushies too right now. not sure how many calories i am eating. but i am having 3 meals per day and some Protein Shakes. i do get hungry between and have a sugar free popcicle. i went to the nutritionist today and she said i was right on track with everything. i did notice that once a week i am up 2 pounds and then it comes off and i lose a pound the next few days. i do get discouraged a bit, but after reading so many post, it seems normal. i still get bummed with not losing more. i have lost about 12 pounds since oct 13. not too much but is something at least.

I saw my nutritionist yesterday for meal advancement and she said that I was to eat 4 tbs of mushies three times a day. Not sure how many calories that equates to but I am sure it not too much considering the size! I am eating low fat and high Protein things, plus the Protein Shakes three times a day.

I am on Mushies. My Nutrionalist gave me a list to go by and told me that if you follow the list it's all spelled out for you how much calories. Which is about 600-700 calories and 70-80 grams of Protein a day. It's 3 meals of 2-3 OZ (4-6tbs) as each meal. Plus I'm on three 8oz Protein shakes a day. She put me on 8oz because I was hungry inbetween and I have 5 weeks until my first fill. She said that I have to sip it really slow though.

As someone else said and many have said, this is where we go through 'banders hell'. After we heal we should start losing the weight.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
