So Frustrated - I am ready to quit!

Recommended Posts

Ok - so last year at this time I was getting ready for surgery. Then my company got sold and changed insurance. So in April I found out my new insurance required the 6 months of weight loss. So I went through all of this. It was a huge set back when I had to start over. Now I have gotten excited again...tasting victory. So everything was to be handed in to insurance and I got a phone call saying the surgeon wanted to meet with me first. They knew my health problems all along. I have spent $2000 getting ready and now he tells me I am too high risk for him and HE (the surgeon) is turning me down. I do have asthma and problems waking up from anesthesia. I am just really slow to wake up. I am also allergic to percocet and vicodin so he says there are little to no other options. I am trying to see a new surgeon ant a different facility but I fear running out of time. Talk about a bummer! Last year I paid me out of pocket max and couldnt do it. Now this year I have paid it again. I can afford going into next year. I am so frustrated!!! Anybody else out there that got turned down by the surgeon? Why could they have not told me all of this from the very beginning. Ugh!

I'm sorry that happened to you. I agree that they should have told you from the beginning and I'd be upset about that too. I wish I could tell you something to make you feel better. All I can say is that if I were in your shoes I think I would get a second opinion and maybe a third opinion from another surgeon and if they still won't do it than maybe it's just too dangerous for you. I know it's not what you want to hear but I'd hate for something bad to happen to you. Maybe you're meant to do it another way. If you are able to lose it on your own without the band your self esteem will be much better. I'm glad that I got the band but I think I'd feel much happier if I'd been able to do it on my own. Good luck to you.

I can only imagine your frustration. You want to make sure you come out of this safely though. If this surgeon isn't qualified to handle your other medical conditions then it's better you find out now- although he should have told you this when you first started. Please look into a second opinion. I am allergic to almost every medication out there. My surgeon normally sends people home with Percocet but because of my allergies, I was given Tylenol with codein. The medications can be worked around. I do not know much about anesthesia but I do know I met with an anesthesiologist who is seperate from my surgeon. Maybe you can contact your local hospital and ask to be contacted by the anesthesiology department and ask them how they would handle a patient who is slow to wake up from anesthesia so you will have the answers for the next surgeon. Good luck and let us know how you make out.

What about an epidural, like some of us get when we have babies. The surgeon should have offered alternatives.

Sorry it's so hard! You have been courageous.:wink2:

It's taken me 9 almost 10 months, when it was only supposed to take 6 for my insurance. I ended up getting denied the first time for my psychological clearance, but got it the second time around, which was this month. Now I'm worried that my dr. won't take an anethesia report for my cardiac clearance. I'm not out of the Water yet, but I'm not getting worried just yet.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks
