Over Active Thyroid

Recommended Posts

Hi Everyone,

I was just wondering if anyone else has developed an over active thyroid after surgery? I am 13 months post op and have lost 130 pounds. Over the last 3 1/2 weeks I have been having hives really bad all over. The dermatologist did bloodwork and showed my thyroid is over active. I went to the endocarnologist (spelling?) and he said it is extremely over active and that I would have to start taking medicine to regulate. (only temporary) I had to have more bloodwork and on Nov. 2 i am going for a iodine uptake test. I ve heard the medicine makes it slow down and people usually gain weight. I am scared to death, I don't want to gain any weight back. I've come too far. Anyone have any advice?

I would not worry about the weight loss as much as the damage an overactive thyroid can do. Mine is underactive (hypo) and I have lost 90lbs since Dec 2008, so I think I am doing pretty well with a slow thyroid.

I am already taking Levoxyl 75mg daily for under-active thyroid. I hope my endocrinologist is on top of his game and catches the switch on time when/if it occurs.

Well, he should since I do blood work every month just for that.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
