Party 3 days later???

Recommended Posts

I'm invited to a party 3 days after my surgery. It's not an "active" event really and there will be plenty of opportunity for me to sit and relax. Of course I won't actually eat anything while I am there. Were you up to this kind of activity 3 days post op (if you stayed home and rested all day)?

I wasn't up for it. I was swolen and uncomfortable for about a week. It was kindof hard to walk and sit comfortably too. But, I was back to 100% after that first week.

It's different for everyone though . . .

I was banded on Oct 15th and on the third day I had quite a bit of company come by. I stayed on the couch, was in my jammies, and although I enjoyed all my friends and family, I was exhausted afterward. If you do go, I would plan to stay for a short time, then get back home to rest. You don't want to set your recovery back by doing too much too soon. But it would be nice to get out of the house and see your friends., Just dont over do! Good Luck

I did go to a birthday party 4 days after my surgery! I sat for most of it; took my clear drinks with me and my pillow for my tummy. And actually, I got up and did a little of the Electric Slide with all the ladies! Not much, but a little. I considered it my walking for the day! Was I sore? Oh yes, but I refused to just stay at home and continue to sit in my easy chair when there was a party going on. And, I felt better once I got up and got moving. However, everyone is different and I would tell you to see how you feel on that day and then make your decision. If you are still very sore and just don't want to go, then don't. Only you know how you will be feeling.

I went to a party two days after my surgery. It was a going away party for our friends' son who was leaving for Marine boot camp, and we'd known their son since he was nine, so I really wanted to go. I wore a loose fitting dress, brought some bottled Water, and was fine. I forgot to take my Tylenol before I went, so I did end feeling a little achy. At that time, only my husband and kids knew I had the surgery, and nobody noticed that I was sipping water and staying away from the food. I told them about four months later when it became obvious I was losing weight. However, I was lucky that I felt so good, so fast.

I tried to help out with my daughter's 6 year old b-day party at the local pool 2 days after surgery. I survived but it was not pleasant. I was a little unstable on my feet and neither sitting nor standing for any time was great. I also had a lot shoulder pain which I didn't expect and then the effects of the meds too. You would survive it easy but it will be uncomfortable in ways you cannot predict....

Best of luck!:cursing:

I was banded last wednesday and on Saturday I did go to Wal-Mart b/c I knew I needed to walk to help the gas pains. I was in jammies and a sweatshirt and would not have wanted to go to a party just b/c of the gas pains! But....everyone is different and you might be ready to party! I wouldn't commit with anything but a maybe...

Good luck on your surgery!

I could have done it. I might have been a bit tired by the time I got back home is all.

I had surgery on Tuesday and went back to work on Friday, including a round trip commute of 94 miles. If I'd had a driving need, I could probably have gone back to work on Thursday but was grateful to have that day.

How did I do that? Part of it is very much the power of positive thinking. But positive thinking will not completely overcome pain and it doesn't do a thing for gas, LOL.

I did a 1 mile walk for charity the day after surgery and I was fine! You will have some gas and may belch, so if that would embarrass you, you may want to stay in!

You could probably do it, but if you are planning to be at all private about your surgery, it might be better to sit this one out so that people you may not want to share this with won't be asking you questions about it.

BTW, be sure to take before photos and your measurements! You will want them later!

Best,

Catherine

Two days after my surgery was my niece's communtion party. It was at my sister-in-laws house so I knew it was more laid back. I went and got along well. When I got tired, I went inside and laid down. I sat and relaxed as much as possible. I also live about 1.5 miles from her house, so I had the option to go home if I wasnt feeling well. Hopefully it works out for you! Just take it easy if you decided to attend. Be smart and dont push yourself.

I do plan on being very private about my surgery. So no jammies or pillows and such. I could certainly get away with wearing something comfortable. It is an ornament exchange party at someone's home. There will be enough people there that if I don't eat anything or spend a lot of time in the bathroom, no one will notice. I think I will RSVP that I will go and then if I am unable to I can cancel and just send my ornament. I think after 3 days of sitting home I will be ready to get out for a couple hours....or at least I hope I will!

Thanks everyone.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?
