Need Lap Band Buddy / Mentor Banded 10/09/09 and really nervous

Recommended Posts

My name is Deanna and I was banded 10-09-09. I am 35 and married with 2 small children (4 and 2.5) I am a teacher. Starting weight was 232 currently at 218. I am having a hard time with the liquid diet post-op. I am so very hungry all the time and afraid I am consuming too much per meal. I do not want to strech my pouch or cause my band to slip but this is what I am afraid of right now. I really need someone I can talk to about this. My family is very supportive but they don't understand what I am going through.

Congratulations on your weight loss so far. What stage of liquids are you on? Still clear or are you at full? Once on full liquids, you can have Soups that are much more flavorful and that will help a lot to satisfy your need for food. My favorite was cream of chicken. I prepared it by adding skim milk to it, instead of Water. Then, I would add a little sage, garlic powder and pepper. It was so good, my teenager took it to work for lunch! I am a teacher and I have to eat everyday with my students. By the time they are all seat, I have less than 15 minutes to eat. This means that lunch is Soup for me almost everyday. I just don't have time to eat anything else properly. Not enough chewing time! I use the Campbell's Soup at Hand that you just heat and drink.

The liquid stage is a complete pain-in-the-butt. Luckily it doesn't last forever...it just SEEMS like it.:)

I am on full liquids now which has helped some. Last night I blended down a potato Soup which was very good. I am also trying different protien drinks amd mixes. After next Friday I can begin soft foods and I am so excited.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
