I'm concerned about the location of my port. Most people I have talked to have theirs off to the side or further down their abdomen near their belly button. Mine is right in the middle of my gut about 6 inches down from the center of my sternum. Does that sound weird to you? Where is yours? :)

It seems most doctors aim to put it on the left side, just as you described, and that's where mine is too, but some prefer the right. Doctors also take into account past surgeries, scar tissue, and the shape & size of your stomach. I asked my surgeon prior to surgery where he would place my port, and he took a look at my abdomen, and said he would go left, a couple of inches below my rib cage (that's where the incision scar is located, and the port is below that). I've read some women have woke up to find their port right on their bra line..ouch.

My port is in the same location as yours. I think really it's just where the doctor prefers to put it. I will have to say that I have switched doctors (mine moved away) and the new doctor is always saying that I am his easiest fill patient. So I guess that has to be a plus. I've seen YouTube videos where the fill doc is just digging into the patients side trying to find the port. And I would DIE if the doc had to dig around with a big ass needle in my side trying to find my port. So I am very happy with my port location.

Shrinking Man -

I have the Realize band and my port is located in the same spot as yours. Haven't had any problems with it there in the last 1.5 years. Fills were pretty easy based on that location.

A friend of mine has their port on the side, a little lower and says it can be uncomfortable when sitting.

i was told that it would be right under my chest because that was the thickest part of the stomach. also because the more weight you loose, your port can move and they will have to go back in and fix it. my doc told me that he would put it under my chest because when i loose weight my port will stay put!

hi incredible

mine is in the same place as yours. originally i thought it was a perfect place. now that i've lost weight...it gets in the way a little bit. mostly at the gym with my heart monitor on.

i tried to have it buried deeper during my plastic surgery but they couldnt do it.

i still think this is the best place for me....off to the side might have been not so good for me

Hi-

My port is located right at my Bra-line at the sternum. I didnt (couldnt) wear a bra for the first 6 weeks. I have had to change my bra style to accomodate this location.

Glad to hear someone else has their port located here, too. I thought it was very odd, since my friends all have their ports in their abdomen.

Does anyone else tend to hiccup a lot more with it located here???:w00t:

Mine is in the same place as your as well. Mine has turned sideways though. So it sticks out quite a bit, and is a little trickier to get the fill.

Doc says he doesn't want to fix it unless it becomes a problem.

If I stand up straight you can see it sticking out.

My port is located one inch to the right of my belly button. I already had a port revision as it was sticking out too far.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
