Hi everyone! My name is Donna and I have decided to pursue Lap band surgery. I have been the given the go ahead by my endocrinologist. I am diabetic. I am 5'8" and weight 285. I have been heavy my whole life. I have tried every diet and what not to no avail. I am an active person and do eat good foods. My endo says that my stupid metabolic issues (insulin resistant) make it very hard to lose weight and he thinks the lap band will be the added boost that I need. But hey, even if it is good food, I still eat too much of it.. LOL I am 31 years old and have decided to do something for myself once. I am glad I found this board. I think you guys will give the support that I need. I am going to the seminar November 9th.. still a ways away but I am patient and will try to stay healthy while I wait.

Just wanted to introduce myself..

Donna :)

Welcome Donna! This site is a great resource. I don't know what I would have done without it.

I'm 32, started at 285, and I'm 5"6, so you're starting out close to where I was with the exception of a few inches. I'm down over 40 lbs. I can't say enough positive things about the band.

Plug away on the steps to surgery and you'll be surprised at how quickly it comes. Think of it - you'll be able to keep your New Year's resolution in 2006! In the meantime, practice eating slowly and try to exercise so that you're strong for surgery. Good luck!

I'm currently looking into getting the band done. I have been trying for the past hour to figure out how to post, so I figured I'd just replay to someone who is new on the form as well.

I'm from Michigan and going to go to the first orientation tomorrow. Little bit of history: I'm 43, 304 pounds, 5'6" and sick of living this way. In June 2004, I started a weight management program at the same place that does the bariatric and lap band surgeries. I lost 60 pounds, but have now gained half of that back. It takes a lot of soul searching and conviction to come to this point.

I have garnered a great deal of information from this website and thank all of you for your willingness to be open and truthful about your experiences.

Good luck to the newbie ... and thanks.

Hi ladies!!! Welcome to LBT :)

Donna, I went to my first seminar in March. I took my Mom with me to another one in May and finally made the decision to go ahead! I'm having surgery tomorrow morning - just 10 hours to go!!! I'm paying for it by myself (weight loss surgery is excluded on my health ins policy).... so, it took me a while to make the decision.

Tracy, when you want to start a "thread" - click on the appropriate forum and directly below "user cp" is a icon that says "new thread"

I know you will learn a lot if you keep reading and asking questions. There are so many wonderful people here who will offer their support.

All the best,

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?
