Can't follow my diet

Recommended Posts

I am on the well I am suppose to be on a pre-op diet, However I can not stomach the Protein Shakes. My surgery is scheduled for October 14th and I still can follow my diet. I tried the slim fast but I don't like milk so it taste gross to me. I tried another suppliment that my friend who recently had the surgery gave me and he said it taste good. I tried it this morning and it was worse then slim fast. I threw it right back up. What am I suppose to do. I need to do this diet for the next 10 days.

I suggest that you speak to your Doctor. The main problem is that if you can't manage to do this diet now then how are you going to manage to stick to the post op liquid diet.< /p>

If it is just a case of not liking the taste you may have to grin and bear it. If they are genuinely making you ill maybe you have an allergy or intolerance to one of the ingredients. But your Dr is the only person who can help you.

Hope you find some way to make this work.

Ask your nutritionist if he/she has some samples you can try, maybe you can find some Protein that you can stomach. Or, try diluting them in more Fluid. My office recommends Unjury and I love the taste of vanilla and chocolate mixed with milk, but I am supposed to have 2 a day made with a low or non-calorie beverage (ie crystal light or water). I couldn't stand 1 scoop of unflavored protein mixed with a cup of crystal light, so I started mixing my 2 scoops with 2 quarts of crystal light--I honestly can't tell its there! My boyfriend drank a glass the other day (not knowing what it was!) and couldn't even tell. I get more than 2 quarts of fluid in a day, and it only adds 40 cal/day. Best of all, when I'm sipping on protein all day long I rarely get hungry! The other thing that I jsut discovered tonight is that the Vanilla powder is great in coffee! Just make sure that the coffee isn't too hot--it needs to be 130 degrees or less!

I know ordering online won't help you much for the preop but you have to have something you can stomach for the long run. I just recieved the Protein sampler kit I ordered from BariatricEating.com and it has tons of different flavors and different brands of Protein Shakes. I was pretty impressed with it and would highly recommend it. Or perhaps you may want to order cheaper samples from other sites to try to find something you like. I know unjury.com sells samples for $1.75 each.

Everyone is different and just because your friend may like one shake doesnt mean you will!

Hello. I never had to do the Protein Shake part for any pre or post op. I did however hear of one man putting coffee with a chocolate Protein shake to make a mocha of sorts. Best wishes!:frown:

My surgeon required 1-2 weeks of nothing but clear, no-cal liquids. I drank Crystal Lite, Water, etc. for a week. It was HARD because I was so hungry (I didn't follow it perfectly).

Anyway, I was always jealous of those who could have Protein Shakes because I thought they must be less HUNGRY than I was.

If you're more concerned about taste than hunger, then perhaps talk to your doc about doing no-calorie Clear Liquids instead of Protein shakes.< /p>

The primary goal is generally to limit carbs to shrink your liver. There are more ways to accomplish than than just protein shakes.

It doesn't hurt to ask.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
