meatloaf and mashed potatos on mushy stage

Recommended Posts

ok well today was my 1st day of mushys Thank God! I had a scrammbled egg for Breakfast, a cup of cottage cheese for lunch and for dinner I had about 1/4 Cup of meatloaf smashed with a fork mixed into about 1/2 Cup of mashed potatos and gravy. My question is was this OK or was the smashed meatloaf not a mushy? The nutrisionist never gave me a list of food I could have so just wondering everyones opinion. I was also wondering if anyone had any ideas for veggies cuz Im craving some. Also is baked haddock OK?

I think that sounds ok. My dr told me to only eat soft fish, but I have read where other drs have said ground beef. My neighbor has a food mill type thing from pampered chef and she said she would run any ground beef through that before eating to break it up more.

I am not allowed eggs, ground beef, fish or cooked veggies till I get to soft foods. My mushee's (pureed phase) all had to be MUSH like, smooth consistency. I did mashed potatoes, I made chicken salad and put it in the food processor. It was good. I am tired of the mush that is for sure. I move on to soft foods Saturday and can't wait.

This is just what my Dr and lists of foods say. I'd check with your Dr. if your not sure. I'm sure they could answer that one pretty quickly. :)

My thought is that if you ate it and had no problems, then don't worry. I think the idea is not to strain the new tummy and I think you'll know if you strain it. It will HURT.

I think I would have switched quantities of meatloaf and potatoes as the meat has the Protein and the potatoes are just empty calories for us these days.

Sometimes if we eat foods we shouldn't too early in the healing process, the damage does not show up until months down the road. It's important to follow all the rules during the healing phase and not take chances of having problems later on.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
