5 fills very little weight loss and frustrated!!!

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone! I'm so frustrated! I have the realize band but not sure how many cc's it will hold cause my doctor doesn't tell his patients that. I have had 5 fills and I know that after my 4th fill I have 4 1/2 cc's only because the PA told me again my doctor doesn't like for you to know what you have in your band. My doctor did my last fill so I'm not sure if he brought me up to 5 cc's or 5 1/2 cc's or maybe even 6 cc's. But I hardly have any weight loss at all and some restriction. I eat healthly most all the time. I walk 2 miles everyday. Work out with my trainer 2 times sometimes 3 times a week. I go on Monday to my Dr.'s appt. and hope he will give me another fill. I don't know how much more I can take....I'm so frustrated. I know the band is a tool to help me and I'm doing what I think I should be doing and feel like I'm getting no where fast!! Has anyone else had this problem or anything similar? Would love to hear from you. Thanks for your time!!!

I had my surgery July of 2008. stopped going for my fills in February and gained some weight back. Started going back in August and still very little restriction. I am frustrated but I refuse to give up. I exercise more and can tell that I have lost inches. I should be close to my goal weight but nowhere close. I was suppose to go to the dr tomorrow but cancelled. I don't know if I need to go to another dr or what. Any advice.

Hi everyone,

I can totally feel you guys on this one. I had sugery 05/21/08 and to date I have not lost very much weight. 26 pounds to be exact, the first year I was hurt and frustrated but I kept in mind that I was exercising and eating right so something at somepoint has to change. I have had about 10 fills my last being last month, I finally have a decent amount of restriction.

If not for the NSV I would have seriously dove into a cupcake and taken up residence, but since I didn't I can cleary see that my body has changed. My cloths fit better, I am a lot...I mean a lot more comfortable. I can exercise comfortably without feeling like I'm going to die.

Everything in my life is better since I had the band placed. But I still look at the numbers and wonder if I'm really failing.

I was banded Sept 2008 and have lost over 50 pounds. Unfortunately I cannot give my band credit for helping me lose this weight in a healthy manner. I have been sick for months and can hardly eat. I'm nauseas all the time and I have nothing in my band right now. Mostof the time I feel like I have the flu and cannot ride or drive in a car for more than 20 minutes without experiencing weird motion sickness that I have never had before. I have lost, yes, but honestly, I'd rather be losing slowly like you guys and some times I would just rather be big again.... at least I was healthy..... anybody else heard of this?

I have had trouble with losing. I've been banded for 2 years and lost only 10pds the first year. The first part of 2nd year lost nothing. Then I decided that I was getting too many calories from wine. I drink 3 sometimes 4 glasses of wine almost every nite. I quit and lost 23 pounds over 6 months. Started back a few months ago and gained 3 pounds. Now I am going to quit for good. I think liquid calories are the weight killer. liquids like alcohol and pop just go down the band so easy.

Also try to remember when eating it's Protein first.

Perhaps you need to have your ears checked out. Ear stuff can cause weird problems.

But if you have a fever, then you probably have an infectiona nd need to get that taken care of immediately.

I haven't had a fever for years and I have had everything on my body checked mutiple times. I have had so many tests done and they all come back fine. I think it's the band. My body is rejecting it or something....

I am sorry to say this and it might offend some people but if you have the band and have only lost 10-30 lbs in 1-2 years then it is your fault not the band. If you are eating right and exercising like you say then the weight should be coming off even with out the band. Of course I am not a band expert but some people assume that if you don't lose with the band it is automatically the bands fault. If you keep up on your fills, eat healthy, and get in moderate exercise then the weight should be coming off. If not, then it is your fault and not the band....

I wouldn't say it is all your own fault...I have discussed in length with my doctor and my trainer that everyone is different and the weight just doesn't fall off for everyone. Although I am really frustrated both my doctor and trainer think that my body isn't ready to let go of the fat that I have carried for years and years. And no matter how much I exercise, eat healthy if my body isn't ready to give it up...then there isn't much else I can do except stay with what I am doing and hope each fill will help me get closer to where I want/need to be...

If it is possible for you to afford it, going to a therapist and working on weight issues can be very important. I work with a therapist and have learned that because of PTSD and abusive relationships in the past, my weight (my fat) feels like a protective barrier. Without it I feel vulnerable and not as able to protect myself. Also because my stepfather was a pediphil, I am extremely uncomfortable with my sexuality. The fat makes me look not sexual and that is psychologically comforting.

I cannot help but feel that many of us sabatage ourselves because the fat gives us a feeling of safety and protection. Also we can protect ourselves with our weight but without it we are much less able to protect ourselves.

It's so very sad but, so many of us have a ton of really difficult issues to work through before we can let go of our protective fat.

Dragonfly, I also have to say that for me at least when I decided to start eating healthy and exercising before I got my band the weight did not start coming off until I was consistent for 6 or 7 months. If I stop I have to start all over again. And won't lose until it's been a long time of me doing what I'm supposed to be doing. I would be on a diet and exercise for a few months and then give up because nothing was happening. Then I stuck w/ it once for over a year and lost 70 pounds. Then I gained it all back again.... almost. 50 pounds of it anyway. I just now lost that 50 and I'm back to where I was a few years ago. This time I'm not giving up and I'm already under 200 for the first time since I was 12 or so. I've been sick the whole time and I can't eat but hey, sacrifices right... I'm thinking about getting my band removed in the next few months but I think my case is a little different. I think you need to hang in there, keep getting your fills, keep exercising and DON'T GIVE UP! Everyone is different and you will lose weight when your body thinks it's ready. It shoudln't be long though so just keep doing what you're doing.

Wow ....These are the stories that make me really question if the band is the best thing. Sometimes I get pissed off at myself and think if I am willing to go through an operation why can't I just eat healthy and exercise on my own and lose the weight. I am so confused and mad at myself that I am even in this situation!

The band is a tool and will not lose the weight for you. YOU have to make the committment to a healthy lifestyle for the rest of your life, not just a diet. When I was trying to decide which WLS was right for me, my doctor explained it to me this way....the band is for those who historically do well with diets and have had success with them, but then gain it back when hunger kicks it. He told me if I did not have a history of success with dieting on my own then I should consider the sleeve or bypass. Bottom line, lapband is the least evasive procedure but it is also the one that relies most heavily on YOU to do the most of the work.

Four days post surgery. I am sipping as fast as I can and getting NO WHERE near the goal of 60 - 80 grams of protein or the 64 oz of liquids. I just feel FULL. I don't know if it can still be the gas build up (I would think by now that would be gone) but it is a struggle to drink. And so far I have not had the nausea or spasms and don't want to wander into that territory by pushing too hard with liquids. I about passed out today as it was my most "strenuous" day. Went from second story to basement for shower and I was sure I was going to pass out. Looking back on my last few days I have had a total of less than 1000 calories. Am I just not getting enough nourishment in me? Once again a friday where I can't get ahold of the doc until Monday rolls back around so I am hoping maybe someone here has some experience on how to keep energy going. I do have fibromyalgia too and that may be where some added fatigue comes into play. How did you all fair with the goals the week after surgery?

2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

I'm in Houston so kind of near you and had the sleeve in Dec. Down 61 lbs. Feeling better. Was definitely worth it. I hope the everything is going well for you. Update us when you can!

I am back home after my bypass surgery in Tiajuana. I'm post op day 4. Everything went great! I guess I'm one of the lucky ones who have not encountered much pain at all, no nausea thus far and I'm having no problem keeping down broths and water. Thank you for your well wishes. I cant wait to keep up this journey and have a chance at better health and simply better quality of life. I know there will be bumps in the road ahead, and everything won't be peaches and cream, but at least I have a great start so far. 😍

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜
