Hello I had my Lap Band 09/21/09 and I have the worst left shoulder/back/breast pain ever!!! Is this really from GAS?

It more than likely is from "gas". What it really is, is the CO2 they use to inflate your abdomen to make it easier to navigate the tools kinda sticks around after surgery. There isn't actual gas in your shoulder, instead it's actually pushing on your diaphragm and messing with your phrenic nerve, which makes your shoulder hurt.

It pretty much sucks and was my biggest complaint lol the only way to get rid of it is walking and letting the time pass. I found that putting my arm in weird positions, like above my head or behind my head, helped alleviate the severe pain.

Yep, it's gas alright. You will think you are having a heart-attack. Take some Gas-X strips and walk, walk, walk. It will pass in a few days.

Hi! Yes the gas pain is the worse! It does go away but it seems like you are dying until it does. ha Walking and pain meds help but heating pad helped me the most. Good luck to you.

I had no idea why my shoulder hurt. People on this site filled me in on the gas/shoulder issue (thanks). It took a few weeks for it to go away completely for me. I would say it was the worst 3-6 days after surgery. I took pain relievers, gas strips, walked and used a heating pad. It does go away. Believe it or not, it was the worst part for me.

Hope this helps.

Worst part for me too. It took about 6 weeks for mine to completely go away. A moist heating pad was my best friend. And get active...walk, walk, walk!

the gas/air/co2 they use during the surgery will all be gone in a day or so. The pain is from pressure on a nerve. I will try to give you a link to a thread that has a very good explaination.

I am almost 3 months post-op and the left shoulder pain is just now getting better. I used pain Patches from wal-mart and they helped a lot.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
