How Long Should I wait?

Recommended Posts

I saw the surgeon a week ago today. She said they would contact me after they get my insurance authorization, which I could expect a call within two weeks. And that I was looking at a date in late October or early November. Can I call today to check the status? I dont want to be a pain... but my boss needs to know sooner then later because he is creating the next two months schedule. Or should I just be patient until next week?

I know in my case insurance took a long time. My surgeon submittee it on Auguest 3rd and i got approval on August 31st.

To be honest i called my insurance company once a week to see what was goning on. And then also according to how long the insurance takes will have a lot to do with when surgery will be done. My Dr was scheduling at least 6 weeks out.

Good luck and don't be affraid to call the insurance company yourself. I gave my surgeon the authorization number. lol

I'm am so with you. This is just horrible waiting. I think tomorrow is 2 weeks for me and everytime the phone rings I tell myself it is not them to keep from getting upset. I sure could use the uplift of a yes at this point. I want to call the insurance company, but I am afraid it will mess it up lol. Good luck to you

LOL Dana. I called every day too. My paperwork was submitted on Monday and I got approval yesterday, so what's that 3 days? Good thing I called too--the only thing the insurance co. was waiting on was a call from my surgeon before they could issue the approval.

Hey, they are in business to provide US with excellent service--call and bug 'em LOL!

I called insurance company and they said they have recieved NOTHING from hospital yet!!! The insurance lady even checked the fax with me holding to Dble check. I am kinda annoyed because i was led to believe it was pending approval... It cant be approved if it doesn't yet exist to the Insurance company. The surgeon said they would call within 2 weeks so i will wait until tuesday and then I am calling them and my Insurance to see what the hold up is. I am trying to be patient but it is SOOO hard. LOL hopefully by this time next week I will have more info....

Grrr! That would make me so mad! Did you call the surgeon's office and tell them that the insurance company cannot locate your paperwork? Perhaps the fax got lost in transmission. I would just have your surgeon's office recheck to make sure they have a confirmation/receipt from your insurance company. You never know. They are dealing with so many different insurances, they could've sent it in to the wrong place. Just a thought....

Hang in there!

I called today (exactly 2 weeks later). They said they will call me either later today or tomorrow to set up a date. My Surgeon usually does mondays and tuesdays for surgery so hopefully I will be a band member by Turkey Day!!

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.
