Pain at band site after eating...anyone else ever have this?

Recommended Posts

Hi all...

I had my first fill last week (See my banded stats below) and a couple of days after that I started having pain around at the band area after I ate. I started out with one meal...then now it's at every meal, or even snack. I starts up after I'm done eating and last for a couple of hours. It's a pokey-sharp-achy pain that I feel when I move around, not so much if I'm sitting still. I can feel it too when I take a deep breath after eating. Doesnt matter if I eat a lot or a little. I've been chewing super well, the only thing I'm guilty of is not eating super slow...but I do eat slow-ish. I stop when I'm comfortably full.

Also a few days ago when I was lying in bed, when I first woke up I took a deep breath to see if there was any pain...and (holy moses) I felt a little pop. It did it every time I took a deep breath and pushed out a little. It has not done that since and I wont be trying to feel that again!

I went to see my surgeon today, he made notes, he thought I might be too tight when I was talking with him in his office. He said he's had other people complain of the same thing. But my first fill was pretty small. He watched me swallow with my fill in, then took out my fill and and he watched me swallow the barium several different times under floro. He said everything looked good. They put my fill back in and gave my another .8cc's more. Now I'm on liquids for the next two days so not sure if it will act up again.

My surgeon told me to come back in two weeks if the pain doesnt go away, or sooner if it gets worse.

So what do you fellow bandster's think - has anyone had any similar pain? I've been doing so great up until this issue~!!

Thanks guys!

Hi Renee. I know it's pretty common for our stomachs to be irritated / swollen after fills. For most people, this goes away pretty quickly (within a couple of days), but some people are more sensitive than others. You did the right thing consulting your surgeon, and it sounds like he gave you some pretty sound advice. Good luck!!

Hey Renee,

It is common for your stomach to swell some after fills. A few days after my surgery I developed a pain when I would move funny or breathe. It was so annoying. It eventually felt like I was being rubbed raw on the inside.

I called my surgeon and he said that I was probably so swollen that the band was rubbing on my diaphragm when I moved or breathed. He advised me to take 800 mg of Ibuprofen every 6-8 hours to help with the inflammation.

The feeling eventually went away once the swelling went down. So, my guess is that you too are feeling the rubbing on your diaphragm. Besides the Ibuprofen, it helped me to push down and in right under my left rib-cage which essentially moved my stomach away from my diaphragm.

Good luck! It should go away soon. :bored:

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?
