The lap band doesn't work for everyone....

Recommended Posts

...and I am one of those who's lap band has failed them. I am going to make a 350 mile plus trip tomorrow morning (4 am) and travel to the Cleveland Clinic to have one cc taken out of my band. For the past 6 months I have been getting stuck during a lot of my meals, especially for Breakfast. The only thing I'm able to consume for Breakfast is a Carnation Instant Breakfast drink w/ powders?utm_source=BariatricPal&utm_medium=Affiliate&utm_campaign=CommentLink" target="_ad" data-id="1" >unjury Protein powder. I've tried scrambled Egg Beaters, soupy oatmeal, and cold cereals, only to get stuck after the second or third bites. Yes, I do take small bites and make sure they are chewed to a mushie or watery consistency, but they still get stuck. The same thing goes for most lunches...getting stuck after the second or third bite. I've come to the conclusion that I am too tight and need to have some of the saline taken out of my band in order for me to eat healthy meals.

I have not been able to lose any more weight since my initial surgery. A total of 20 lbs in over a year is not what I expected from this band. All diets, including this band, just does not work for me. I'm destined to be this size until the day I die. So frustrating and disappointing. If I knew on July 1st of last year that this was all the weight I would lose, I would never had gone through this surgery. So having the 1 cc taken out, hopefully will allow me to start eating healthy meals 3 times a day without all the pain, and hopefully start to lose some more weight.

Wish me luck...I definitely need it!

Susie, I'm so sorry you're not losing weight in addition to not being able to eat properly. That's certainly a double whammy. I hope that getting a slight unfill will help you get back on track with eating healthy and nourishing food again.

Maybe you'll find that as you're able to add back solid foods, you'll begin to lose weight. At minimum, I hope the unfill reduces your restriction enough that you can eat a variety of foods again.

Good luck, and let us know how it goes.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
