Life getting back to normal

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

Been MIA a bit...recovering..getting back in the groove of going to work and taking care of the munchkin.

I had my post op follow-up last Thursday and despite my complication, the doctor said I was good to go. He even cleared me to do my exercise classes at the gym. (No weights for another month, though).

I took the bull by the horns and went to my Zumba class on Friday. I did feel a little more tired than I would normally, and maybe had a little less OOMPH on some of the moves, but I made it all the way through and didn't experience any kind of pain or problems.

I also got cleared to move from liquids to soft foods, so I have been enjoying refried Beans w/low fat cheese and sour cream. I also got to add back my V-8 Soups.

I feel like I am back to normal and I am looking forward to my slow and steady race to losing my obesity status.

How is everyone else doing? I have been trying to catch up, but there is a LOT!

well I had my surgery on 17th and for some reason I felt like I should have been fine by now and back to work but since I am not its kinda getting frustrating. I'm thinking of calling in and just skippig the rest of this week so that I can concentrate of getting better and not how soon can I get to work.

I'm glad you are doing well. you don't have any pain or bloating anymore? that's great. Exercise for me. I never thought that I would miss exercise but I do.

I know what you mean about trying to get back to work quickly. I actually tried to go back after 5 days and had to leave early because I was exhausted (and I have a desk job!). I did go back the next day for half a day, then had a weekend, so was able to get back at it on Monday with no problems. Don't rush yourself to get back because a day or two more makes a big difference in your strength level. We over estimate what we can do a LOT. Hopefully in the next day or two you will really be up to it.

Had my surgery on the 16th. For some reason I thought I would be back to normal within a week. No such luck. I have been fine as long as I am not doing much. Went for a walk on Sunday - 4 days after surgery and could only walk about 15 minutes. I'm thinking it will be two weeks before I am back to my "normal". I think it takes longer than everyone says! My husband keeps reminding me that I did have surgery! My tummy is sore by the port and very bloated. So hang in there -- we just have to give our bodies time to heal!

Whew... I thought I was the only one who wasn't able to get back into the swing of things as early as I expected. I too had surgery on the 17th, and started work yesterday... just wore me out, so I would close my door and lay on the floor for half an hour to regain myself back, did the same thing today... and that works ok for me... will probably do the same tomorrow and friday

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
