OMG, I had my first experience of being stuck today. My fault...I didn't chew enough and I was VERY hungry so I ate too fast. LESSON LEARNED!

When I first started to have symptoms I had no idea what was happening (it was 2 hours after I ate lunch). My upper back started to hurt really, really bad like major muscle cramps; then my abdominal area started to hurt. I started salivating and then heaving. And to make matters worse...I had to puke in a PUBLIC TOILET! I will never be the same, sob sob.

I was at a workshop, so I left early. I had to pull over half way home to throw up again. My back hurt so bad I was crying. I hope that doesn't happen again...sigh.:blushing:

That sounds awful.

Whenever i get stuck I know about it immediately.Instant pain and I can't carry on eating as nothing will go down. Sometimes it relieves itself after a few minutes - sometimes I have to go to the bathroom and attempt to bring it up.

It was traumatizing! I am sorry to hear that this happens regularly to some of you. You are stronger than I am...I was crying and writhing, being a big cry-baby-pee-pee-pants! I am not sure I will ever eat tortillas again...but thanks for the ideas of how to speed up the recovery if it happens again.

My nutritionist told me that when I feel a food getting stuck I should take 2 papaya enzyme chewable tablets or 1 tsp meat tenderizer mixed with hot Water and lemon juice. the papaya enzyme is in meat tenderizer too.

I haven't gotten to foods yet, just banded and on clears for a week, won't be eating solids for another 4 weeks.

My sister had GBP and she always has problems and forcefully vomits. I had her try the papaya enzyme when I was visiting and she kept the food down without problems. It really works to break down the food and get it through.

I am sort of wondering about this...I was filled to 5 ccs in August. I have been having issues of the food feeling stuck, and then I start to burp and I gag up a mouthful of thick, slimey mucous. Once I spit that out, I can continue eating normally and without issues. However, I never burp up food...just that thick slimey mucous. It's clear, with no food particles in it. It's like the food is going down and the mucous is coming up. Very weird. The MD said I need my band loosened, but other bandsters living nearby said it's just me eating either too fast or too big of bite or not chewed well enough, and that loosening the band is not the answer. Anyone else have issues about slimey mucous? :bored:

Thanks for the advice Mickey! I am not sure how I feel about liquid meat tenderizer, though it would probably be better than the pain! I will keep my eye out for the papaya enzyme, it would be nice to have on hand just in case!

You will end up losing your band that way.

I had that happen by eating an apple too soon after a fill. Fortunately I didn't puke, but I sure wish I had. Chest and back pain for almost 3 hours. I learned my lesson.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?
