How do you feel after your fills?

Recommended Posts

Help! Someone please tell me how you set up your weight loss tracker at the end of each of your posts. My surgery is the 26th and I'd like to have that little tracker on my messages too. Thanks for the input.. and I have to tell you, I joined several months ago when I was researching the lapband and this site has been a wealth of information. Everyone has provided all types of helpful tidbits. Thanks everyone!!

I feel normal, actually I hate getting fills, only time I haven't had issues with a fill was the very first one, but every one since then, everytime I go to eat the next day after the 24 hours liquids it ALWAYS gets stuck. I know it's my fault and not eating slow and taking too big a bite but it always happens =( But on the bright side I found out I lost 7kgs in 2 months last time I went to the hospital =D YAY *7kgs is 15.4lbs for the americans =)

I had my first fill on Thursday. I was so excited for it because i was eating up to 2 cups 3 times a day. I could not wait for my first fill and to eat less and start loosing again. My fill was ok. It did not hurt. They put in 3cc's and I was having chest pains and they took out 1cc. so i have 2 cc's in a 10cc band. That night I was just feeling ok. I could not eat more than 4 tablespoons of Soup. the next day I was very sluggish and not feeling to good. But now here I am 4 days out of my first fill and I am nervous. I am back to eating a 3/4 or a whole cup at a time. I am wondering if I did not get enough fill and why I am not feeling restrictions. If I stick with the 1/2 cup I get very hungry to soon. Is this normal?

i think it is normal - getting to your sweet spot seems to be a process and for sure you will feel more restriction when they do the fill versus a few days later. And as time goes on the same - ie it won't take you one appt to get to where you should be. It better that they do it that way than overfill you and you end up throwing up all the time cuz then it will just get worse due to swelling - they told me - 'you don't want to go there'. I'm still feeling more restricted but at the same time wondering if I am too tight. I got a bit stuck today - granted it was chicken but I was careful and ate slow. It didn't sound like the stuck that I read about where its for hours and extreme pain but I think it is because I felt that bite wasn't going thru and if i continued I would have been there. But there was chest pressure and Water didn't go down.

So after a fill it sounds like we can expect to have less restriction as time goes on unless we are too tight in which case we are not able to keep solid food down.

Try not to worry... I have the same experiences with fills. I have had 5 so far and have 5 ccs in a 10 cc band. The first time they gave me 2 ccs and it was fine... after that, they give me 1cc, but I always burp up the Water they give me, so they have been taking out .5ccs before I leave. For the first 4 days or so, I do great with restriction, then I find I can eat more than I should...

From what I understand, due to the swelling, they can only give you as much as your tummy can handle at a time. Thats why you have to keep going back. I have noticed that after each fill, up until the next one (my doc comes to town every 6 weeks), it is still more restriction than before, so its all good. Its just patience and dediciation that will get us to that magical sweet spot.

Keep on keeping on, and dont give up!

My first two fills I really didn't feel any different, other than a liitle more restriction. On Mon. I had my third, now at 6cc. I have been a WITCH since, I don't feel irritable but I have been looking for a fight. I am truely tighter in the AM, especially now and sipping something hot is not making it ease up. Had frist meal for lunch yesterday without a problem. dinner however was three bites and of to the bathroom. Ate some deli meat and a little salad last night; was getting weak. I have been tight all day today. Tried some Cereal this morning and it was no go, lunch didn't work either. I did get in some chicken tenders this afternoon and about a 1/2 c of Soup tonight the result is major bloating. I have not been hungry, but I am in a team competition this weekend and I can't pass out because I don't have anything in my system. I have been sipping tea and coffee and Water. I fell like I drank way to much and will pop! But I know I won't because I can't stop burpping!!! I hope I am still a little swollen and this will ease up, oh yeah the weather has been bad.

After you had the bathroom episode did you do liquids (in fact does your doc have u do liquids at all after a fill?) if not try that first. If you had PB's you can end up sore and swollen and going on liquids will help or else you get into a vicious cycle.

Sounds like someone needs to hit the Protein Shakes. That will help you to not pass out anyway. That right there may be your key! I bet things will loosen up after a week or so.

I did 1 1/2 days liquid, 2 mushies as directed. I'm at a pool toury this weekend and food options are not the best. This morining I had 1/2c oatmeal and 4 spoons of yogurt, no problems getting it down. I don't feel as tight but did get a slight headache after about 2 hours. Was able to eat some grilled chicken and salad, feeling much better. I just wish I had won my pool match, blaming it on the headache and not the dumb scratch I made on the eight ball!

i feel fine while having the fill and for the rest of the day. but the next morning my abdomen feels a little sore. not at port site, but inside. just aches. but goes away in time to consume solids again. doc says the squeezing of the organ causes swelling. makes sense.

I've only had one fill so far and I could totally feel the band tightening as he injected the saline -- it almost felt like having a lump in my throat, only lower. That feeling basically lasted the rest of the day. I was still on "thick-uids" when I got my first fill. I imagine after being on liquids for five weeks it's not the best gauge.

I go in for my second fill on Dec 2. I've been on regular food for the past three weeks so we'll see if it's any different. I should really have my second fill next week, but I didn't want to get a fill two days before Thanksgiving! :bored:

I was thought something was wrong with me. My 1st fill (5cc) was normal. After the 2nd fill (2cc) I had gas bad and had to go home from work one day and take a lot of Gas X. Good to know this is common.

First off, let me tell you I TOTALLY ADORE your screen name! That is so cute!

I'm sorry that your having these problems. . . you know guys the more I read about what really goes on with this band thing the more I am worried about getting it done. . . I'm not talking myself out of it yet, still going to the seminar and inital doctors visit, only now I'm getting a bit more leary about it. . is this normal? Did anyone else read and get involved with this site BEFORE they got their band and feel this way? What did you do????? HELP :bored:

It took me 2 years to get approval for the band because of complicating medical conditions so I was just so focused on getting it I dont think I really considered the negatives. I think I would have been better informed if I had been on this site. I think that they either glossed over the complications that occur or maybe I just couldnt hear them. In any case I think you will be in a much better position to know whether the band is for you or not. At least ahving this site you know that its harder than a lot of people make out. But you never know you may be one of the lucky ones (who by the way I believe are in the majority) and sail through it but at least if things pop up that are concerning you have a forum with which to check things out. Good Luck

Four days post surgery. I am sipping as fast as I can and getting NO WHERE near the goal of 60 - 80 grams of protein or the 64 oz of liquids. I just feel FULL. I don't know if it can still be the gas build up (I would think by now that would be gone) but it is a struggle to drink. And so far I have not had the nausea or spasms and don't want to wander into that territory by pushing too hard with liquids. I about passed out today as it was my most "strenuous" day. Went from second story to basement for shower and I was sure I was going to pass out. Looking back on my last few days I have had a total of less than 1000 calories. Am I just not getting enough nourishment in me? Once again a friday where I can't get ahold of the doc until Monday rolls back around so I am hoping maybe someone here has some experience on how to keep energy going. I do have fibromyalgia too and that may be where some added fatigue comes into play. How did you all fair with the goals the week after surgery?

2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

I'm in Houston so kind of near you and had the sleeve in Dec. Down 61 lbs. Feeling better. Was definitely worth it. I hope the everything is going well for you. Update us when you can!

I am back home after my bypass surgery in Tiajuana. I'm post op day 4. Everything went great! I guess I'm one of the lucky ones who have not encountered much pain at all, no nausea thus far and I'm having no problem keeping down broths and water. Thank you for your well wishes. I cant wait to keep up this journey and have a chance at better health and simply better quality of life. I know there will be bumps in the road ahead, and everything won't be peaches and cream, but at least I have a great start so far. 😍

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

      2. Doughgurl

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜
