How do you feel after your fills?

Recommended Posts

I'm curious. Some people say they have more gas and feel bloated for a few days after they get a fill. Some people feel exactly the same no matter what. Others have different experiences entirely.

So what's your experience? Do you physically feel any different in the week or so after you have Fluid added to your band? What differences do you notice? How long does it last? How soon do you notice the difference?

Thanks for sating my curiosity :)

I feel normal, I can usually feel increased restriction for a day or two and then it goes away and I feel normal again. I have never had a fill where I could suddenly eat dramatically less, it was always barely noticeable but just enough to keep weight loss going.

When the doctor is in the process of giving me a fill, I do feel a bit different. It's like I can feel the band tightening around my stomach as he is pushing the saline in. I've never felt any bloating or gas after the fill, just this weird feeling right where the band is. After the first few fills in the beginning, I felt restriction for a couple of weeks and then it went back to normal. The last fill that I had, which was in July, I felt restriction immediately and still have good restriction. I think I was actually too tight after the last one and eventually it loosened up a bit, but not enough to where I need another fill. I feel like I'm at my sweet spot right now.

I just had my first fill done yesterday. At the time of the fill, I didn't feel much different. In fact, I was hungry when I went in for the fill. But later, I had an upset stomach and overnight I did as well. This morning, I feel a lil off. I don't feel like I could handle eating much right now. My stomach is still gurgling away. Im on liquid for today as well anyway... I will be on soft food tommorow. I hope to not have an upset tummy EVERY time I get a fill. That was not fun.:)

Ditto

(I know just copying someone else's reply is sorta cheating, but that's my exact reaction to a fill :))

I usually feel just fine after a fill. I go about my normal daily tasks. I've never had an upset stomach or anything.

It seems to take me a week or so before I notice the impact the fill has had on me. Initially, I don't feel any difference, but after a week (or week and a half) I notice that I feel full quicker and for longer periods.

My doc told me this was common, that it takes some time for the fill to "kick in" and for your brain to register what the fill is trying to do. . .

I've read that others feel it right away, but not me?!

When I had my first fill... I didnt feel any different except I had major shoulder pain! The PA said that the filled band may have pushed on my diaphram which then in turn caused the pain. It did subside after a day or so. But after my second fill I felt like I had just eaten a full Thanksgiving meal! I felt that full feeling for a couple of days until the swelling went down. I'm good now. I went for a 3rd fill and the doctor wouldnt fill the band anymore. He said that my weight loss was going really well and since I had occasional issues with food getting stuck he wanted to be sure I could handle the fills without the possibility of stretching out my pouch. So, I guess for the most part I'm at my "sweet spot" but would like just a smidge more to be honest. We'll see what happens in a few weeks.

I'm sorry that your having these problems. . . you know guys the more I read about what really goes on with this band thing the more I am worried about getting it done. . . I'm not talking myself out of it yet, still going to the seminar and inital doctors visit, only now I'm getting a bit more leary about it. . is this normal? Did anyone else read and get involved with this site BEFORE they got their band and feel this way? What did you do????? HELP

I had 'cold feet' for a full year before being banded...in that time I read all of the forums and realized that the band is a 'tool' to help you lose weight and KEEP IT Off..you do have to take responsiblity for the correct food choices but the band helps you to not overeat. Honestly I feel as tho this is the best thing I have ever done for myself. The folks on the forum have offered a wealth of knowledge and encouragement ..it was so nice knowing my questions can be answered even before I ask them. Good luck with your decision...don't be afraid of the 'fills', they are your friend!!!!!! Pam

I must be the odd man out here! After a fill I usually feel okay the day of but for about 3-4 days after I feel like I've come down with the flu. No stomach upset or anything like that, but really achy and just not feeling well. I'm not sure if it has anything to do with the fact that I can't eat much right away due to swelling, thus causing my body to go out of whack or what. I DREAD getting fills but I think the one I had on Tuesday will probably be my last. I'm pretty sure this will be my sweet spot....:blushing: Especially considering I've lost 6 pounds in 5 days!

I've had 2 fills, with my 3rd tomorrow and I haven't felt any different when I've gotten them. I usually have my appointments at 7am on a Monday morning, go to work, eat Breakfast and continue on my day with no problems. I don't feel any restriction so maybe that will make a difference in how I feel, but I doubt it.

I just got my 3rd fill yesterday. When I got home last night and tried to drink Water, I could tell I am tighter and it takes a little bit longer for liquid to go down. I am on liquids until later tonight, but I can tell a difference. I am hungry because I am just doing liquids, but I can tell a difference.

Four days post surgery. I am sipping as fast as I can and getting NO WHERE near the goal of 60 - 80 grams of protein or the 64 oz of liquids. I just feel FULL. I don't know if it can still be the gas build up (I would think by now that would be gone) but it is a struggle to drink. And so far I have not had the nausea or spasms and don't want to wander into that territory by pushing too hard with liquids. I about passed out today as it was my most "strenuous" day. Went from second story to basement for shower and I was sure I was going to pass out. Looking back on my last few days I have had a total of less than 1000 calories. Am I just not getting enough nourishment in me? Once again a friday where I can't get ahold of the doc until Monday rolls back around so I am hoping maybe someone here has some experience on how to keep energy going. I do have fibromyalgia too and that may be where some added fatigue comes into play. How did you all fair with the goals the week after surgery?

2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

I am back home after my bypass surgery in Tiajuana. I'm post op day 4. Everything went great! I guess I'm one of the lucky ones who have not encountered much pain at all, no nausea thus far and I'm having no problem keeping down broths and water. Thank you for your well wishes. I cant wait to keep up this journey and have a chance at better health and simply better quality of life. I know there will be bumps in the road ahead, and everything won't be peaches and cream, but at least I have a great start so far. 😍

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜
