I've taken several flights since I've been banded, and after I've had good restriction, and never felt any noticeable change in the tightness of my band. Some people have said they feel tighter and have trouble eating and drinking though.

I just got back from a coast to coast flight. I was 3 weeks post op at the time.

No problems flying, just a little discomfort at my incision sites from sitting for sooo long.

Heads up on some food choices: I got some pinto Beans at popeyes to take with me on the plane... very good.

I had some egg drop Soup from one of the chinese places in the airport...

I am still doing full liquids/mushies so I was kinda worried about food. Also, remember that you can bring food with you...as long as it is not liquid. (they let me bring some blackbeans from a restaurant thru security)

Good luck and have fun!

I flew from Melbourne Aus. to Dayton OH, USA then back again. The whole trip is 30 hours from my front door to my parent's front door. It was 2 months after surgery. I followed proper eating and drinking habits without a single problem. I didn't notice any changes in the band. I guess everyone is different though.

I had a two hour trip each way when I was 4 wks post op. No problems. The nurse at my doc's ofc did say some ppl experience some tightness w/ flying.

Have a safe trip!

I've flown several times & not a peep out of my band. Now the kid behind me was a pain in my butt but I guess that was NOT the question!

I had a 2.5 hour flight from North Dakota to Nevada. I must be the exception to this thread because the flight kicked my @ss. I hadnt eaten all day so after about an hour in Las Vegas we ate. Or I should say they ate and I sat and had PB the whole time. It was the first sliming experience for me and I was FREAKING out! I would suggest waiting a few hours after flying to eat anything and try something very slow.

I fly 4 hours each Sunday and Thursday and have had no problems. I wasn't aware that there might be an issue. My Dr. knows I fly each week and he never mentioned that it might cause problems so I am a little surprised that there are people that do have issues.

There shouldn't be any problem with flying. liquid is not compressible. The only issue would be if there were some air in your band. It could compress making you feel hungry, but completely resolve itself when landing.

I am 51/2 weeks post surgery, and I am SCUBA diving.

I was worried, so I talked to the people at Allergen, and they gave me this explanation.

I flew about 4 weeks after my surgery and didn't have any problems on the airplane. I did however forget to eat slowly and chew well and had a PB experience in the airport surrounded by my students...

Extended flying can cause you to become less hydrated. Being less hydrated can cause changes/problems.

So if you feel any difference after a flight it is from being in dry air and becoming less hydrated.

Drink lots of Water while on the flight. If it is a short flight don't even worry about it.

I fly almost every day.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
