Slipped band, what does it feel like.

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone

I would like to know what it feels like to have a slipped band.

I do not have any excessive heartburn, burping, and I have never had an issue with food backing up or anything like that. I just have this weird kind of feeling right in the center of my chest. It is not hard to breathe or anything like that either. You know sometimes when you drink something and it feels as if it went down the wrong way and that hurt you feel, that is what it kind of feels like.

Maybe I am being a bit paranoid but I have been concerned about this. Since my surgery 7/9/09 I have had no issues at all and have lost 27lbs with little restriction only had one fill. The next fill will not be till sometime in Nov as I simply can not take off work to get one done.

Just some input would be helpful and thanks in advance

The pain is gas bubble most likely. I get that when I eat something that is known to be "gassy". I asked my Doctor what a SLIP feels like and she said that one of the first symptom would be that you can not swallow. You become MUCH tighter and can't get anything down such as Water etc. This is an emergency situation I would imagine because you can get dehydrated rather quickly.

From what you describe you are fine especially since you only had one fill..and you are not experiencing food getting stuck or coming back up....good for you. I am on my 3rd and thinking I could use a tiny unfill as I get stuck almost every day. but the weight loss is good. .

Sooverit, I noticed you were denied 3X by Cigna. Do you mind if I ask why? I have a 36 BMI but I have bad sleep apnea and I am on blood pressure meds. Was it because you needed a co-morbbidity?

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
